Hi all , I reactivated my 10 year dormant Betfair account after receiving a few reminders of the changes in online casino regulations a few weeks ago . I deposited £100 ,lost and went back the next day .
I stupidly started on a slots gambling spree over 6 hours , being allowed to deposit 19 deposits quickly one after another totalling over £ 14 , 000 unchecked , no questions no requests for confirmation of source of funds, money laundering checks , affordability or checks to make sure I was who I was supposed to be .
Shocked at what I had done , wasted , lost and been able to do …I self excluded myself immediately , sorted out a bank loan to cover the huge loss and contacted the casino to suggest that in the lock down and following the gambling commissions request that online casinos look out for problem betting , red flag betting frequencies and knowing their customers and their affordability and most importantly protecting themselves and their customers from problem and dangerous gambling in these uncertain times .
They responded that they sent me an email around £4500 spend suggesting self control facilities that I could use and that they were comfortable with their dealing with my gambling and their supervision . No reality checks , no freezing the account until further information was asked for and received , no sign of the customer care and lock down increased concern for red flag flash signs signalling problems that could and should have been addressed and helped at the time . £5,000 ,£10,000 ,what is the right amount to step in?
Now I know I have deposited all the money and gambled it all away , I will be paying the loan off for the next 5 years but Betfair should have protected a 10 year dormant account suddenly mass betting…..red flags all over the place …and they had no idea of my financial standing or indeed if it really was me .
I asked how much more I would have been able to gamble if I hadn’t self excluded before they stepped in but they refused to answer . Any one else had a similar experience and any idea what to do next …Cheers all . Stay safe . mike
23rd June 2020 at 6:42 pm #100803Think their argument would just be that you should of made user of player protection tools. E.g. i note you said this was dormant so it likely wouldn’t of raised any flags, however as far as i am aware on CasinoMeister for online bookies, if you have an account that was self excluded previously and then try to re-open it after the self exclusion period ends then they will literally refuse to un self exclude you unless you set deposit limits. And if you then try change the deposit limits in a quick time frame and completely remove them or crazily increase them they will likely step in and check or close your account.
23rd June 2020 at 6:44 pm #100804Best thing to do is just to not gamble again, sign up to GAMSTOP remove the temptation because as you said you clearly can’t control it and tilt very easy, so definitely don’t try and double the loan you got or something crazy like that, please for your own sake. Take the loss on the chin no matter how much it hurts, forget about it as a moment of madness and mistake that won’t happen again

Not being funny mate but if it had gone the other way and you doubled your money there’s no way you’d have been on here saying “I won 28 bag but I can’t believe they didn’t check I was ok”.
323rd June 2020 at 9:58 pm #100814I tried to reopen a Betfair account a couple of months ago that was off for a year and they permabanned me for asking for the account to be reinstated, then killed my Paddy power account as well ??
Every account I’ve reopened have insisted on a deposit cap.
