Long time since I’ve logged on but felt the need to share this so others don’t get caught out like I did.
I play the FOBTs, not often but have a go and every now and again build up a decent bank roll and I’ll take on some of the volatile games. The FOBTs are crazy volatile now days, example on Saturday I was 1300 into crown gems on red bags, in ten minutes I was upto 1640.
So the other day I go into Boylesports, got a decent amount on me to play their version of Thai flower. I’m 500 in and the manager comes over and tells me I’ve triggered an alert. I say oh is it cos I’m 500 in? I’m fine with that, the machines are crazy volatile and it’s just profit. He says no, it’s kyc due to the amount I’ve wagered. He wanted my name, address, where I work etc. Begrudgingly gave him it and went to carry on. Bare in mind I’ve barely had a win so it’s triggered on minimal wagering really. Before he left, he says I should warn you there is a second trigger where you’ll have to stop playing until you’ve completed KYC which takes about 2 days.
I ask what the second trigger is and he won’t tell me, says he’s not allowed. How am I supposed to know if it’s worth playing on or not? I asked why wasn’t I told before I started that there is a wagering limit? I would never nevee have started if I new that. Again he isn’t allowed to tell me.
So the machine does me for another 400 and I hit the wagering limit. I refuse kyc, i can’t play on that day regardless so can’t make a recovery and in truth I’m raging.
This isn’t KYC or AML, you could put a tenner in and win JP and play that and hit wagering limits and be told you need to complete KYC. Who money laundering off a tenner? Nothing to do with responsible gambling because I never got asked about that once.
This is all about limiting people playing. That’s all a wagering restriction achieves. If you’re losing they will kick you off and they’ve got ya money and if you’re winning they’ll kick you off and you can’t win more (obviously it can work the other way).
Bare in mind I’ve dropped 2k in bets over the past month and never been questioned about that. I dont think a losing player who hasnt won would be suspected of money laundering.
Anyway, the heads up to people who play big on the FOBTS, don’t bother at Boylesports. It’s not worth the risk of being stuck and booted off when you hit the wagering limit. Even if you complete KYC there is a wagering restriction still the fella told me. This won’t be for everyone but if I save one person getting blocked like I did then happy days.
