A good thing ? A necessity that will screw you if and when it can or wants ? An honest industry with the public protected by the FOS who are the pinnacle of humanity ?

I think you normally find if you in open and honest with exactly what happened and so is the other person, should there be someone else involved, then Insurance companies pay what is due.

My only gripe is, initially our driving is judged by those that have gone before and that we are penilised for their mistakes, hence such high premiums for young and new drivers.

Our car was it by a horse once. Yes a horse you ask. The party at fault admitted liability and had equine insurance. We had a courtesy car cover so while our car was off the road we had an alternative car. The lady who owned the horse disappeared of the face of the earth. As a result the car hire company accident and exchange charged us for the bill 5k. It was a bmw we had for I think 19 days ish. They took us to court. Wankers. They lost thank fuck and had to pay us compensation. Lesson is always be very weary when courtesy car is in your policy. Never trust them again.

All insurance is a fraud, it’s the biggest fraud of our times because you or your loved ones receive nothing back when you tap out, leaving a pool of cash for them to collect every year for free.

I work for one if not the largest UK insurer and can assure you that the customer is more protected now than ever before. We have to get our terms spot on and inform the customer every step of the way. Give a benefits and exclusions of every cover and add on. Agents are salaried and marked on compliance and customer scores, not sales at all. Claims are so customer focused that we do all we can to pay out now. We stand by our policies. Huge fines if we dont.

But thats an award winning insurer. Pick a broker who works on commision or an insurer on price over service then expect to get spanked when you need them.

But they all have to work by the same rules surely ? brokers, middle men, actual insurers etc.

I recently had a bump that has made my car uneconimcal to repair in my opinion. However, it literally just happened so I bought another car. Literally half the value and about 60% the bhp, but the exact same model, just not the more powerful one. My insurance for the year is fully paid up and I have 2 months left. They went to change my insurance over to the replacement car and told me I have to pay an extra £188 for the remaining two months. Including their £30 fee to click a few buttons, which they still have to click if I say no, forget it. That works out to a roughly 250% increase of the whole premium. Given 1/12 of the paid premium was around £50 and the added on £80.

As my car is my legs, I feel seriously screwed over. They say my next quote will be in the region of 400% higher than this years was.

My first claim in over 300,000 miles of driving. And I don’t even want them to fix my car and the damage to the other vehicle is about £300-£500. Of course, this is all guess work, except for the above premium charges. I’m considering legal action but really want the stress to just go away.

It’s not about the damage to your car though, if your at fault and the other person has claimed against your insurance then its about how much the whole process costs to fix their car etc.

I had a minor accident and didn’t get my car fixed however when I got the final letter through from my Insurance company the total cost was around 2k. Madness but it is what it is. I lost my no claims bonus, and hence my premium increased the following year.

I assume you didn’t have your no claims bonus protected? And regardless, if you make a claim your premium is always going to climb the following year. However it pays to shop around and you may find a cheaper premium elsewhere.

As for the charge of change of vehicle, for whatever reason I had the same issue when purchasing a new car. It was smaller but apparantly data showed there were more accidents involving that type of vehicle that the one I was in previous so hence the jump in premium plus the admin charge. It will all be in your Terms and conditions though.

A small scratch will write off most cars. The cost of collecting, courtesy car, accessing, storage, admin and repair will far exceed the value of the car. Thats just how it is.

Confuses me that to most people a car purchase will be there biggest or 2nd most expensive asset after property yet they insure with shitty insurers trying to save a few quid . Thats the gamble.

I don’t mind the fact that the repair is more expensive than the value of the car but my concern is the added 150% price addon of the remaining two months that were already paid for, on a lower value less powerful car.
