Hi all, just interested in what charities you guys donate to? Whether as a one-off, or a regular subscription payment.
I used to donate just sporadically, like at a retail counter and they had a donation bucket there, or if I saw or got forwarded a JustGiving from a friend I’d normally chuck in £20 or something. However, recently on a trip to London with my girlfriend, we found £120 in notes scattered around this alleyway we were walking through on our way back from the bar to the hotel. We had a good look round to see if anyone was about that may have dropped it but no one was about, we just assumed it was misplaced from a drug deal or something.
Anyway, at the time, we didn’t even consider handing it into the police, as without a wallet or ID we didn’t think that it could be identified by the person who lost it (afterwards we sort of realised that someone could claim the exact amount and where they lost it I guess), so instead we decided to adopt a bear each! We figured if we couldn’t return the money to its rightful owner, the least we could do was to donate it to charity. Ever since then we now also pay a monthly subscription to our bears 🙂
