I have started a complaint marathon this evening.

My story is elsewhere in this forum, but to cut it short I lost thousands across many Casinos from 2003 onward. 18th birthday basically.

I know the losses were my fault and I take full responsibility. Currently I am gamble free and at a stage where my life is back to parity.

I do feel; especially is the early days that player protection was basically none existent, so I am writing to every bookmaker/casino who I have ever been a member of to complain. It’s over 100 (sister companies & defunct ones will bring this down).

I’m not looking for money back but it would be interesting to see if any of them actually acknowledge any responsibility…I’m not holding my breath.

I will keep this thread updated with responses.

I’m not sure how I feel about this. Although I understand that player protection has only recently started to get to an acceptable position, I am pro self-accountability.

You decided to gamble. The casino didn’t make you. They may have influenced you, of course, but you could make that argument for any product or service. Given that gambling as a product, for the vast majority, is seen as a casual hobbie, and not a problem, I don’t think complaining because of retrospective responsibility is the right thing to do.

Like I’ve said I take full responsibility for my actions.

I’m more interested to see what the Casinos think of their policies/procedures and if they feel they could have done more.

The money is never coming back and I don’t expect it back.

No one ever complains to a casino when they’ve won!

But seem to be the casinos fault when people go crazy and lose a shit load!!!

As usual there is much i agree within your posts but this short story doesn’t put responsible gambling on the casinos side in a good light. Last week the missus who is also on gamstop still constantly receives offers via email from 21.co.uk ladbrokes and galacasino.com received a phone call from galacasino.com offering a £100 bonus for a £10 deposit. Not been bothered to mention gamstop she just said she wasn’t interested and was then badgered into more questions as to why not and it’s a great offer. I see you haven’t played recently till eventually she hung up. I was fuming so rang them and spoke to someone in Gibraltar and the very next day she received a booklet in the post offering a £70 bonus. Player protection is still not happening mate. I agree people should always take responsibility for their actions but when they have taken the necessary steps to stop they shouldn’t then be bombarded with constant offers trying to entice a problem gambler to lapse.

I completely agree mate – this is unacceptable. In my personal experiences, with the casinos I am with, they have been very cautious recently. Had numerous source of wealth requests, emails and calls asking if I’m okay and stuff when I’ve had a big session. It’s all been very positive, albeit a little annoying haha!

But to be contacted (well, bombarded) after taking the effort to stop gambling is absolutely not okay. I revise my post to the following…

Although I understand that player protection has only recently started its initial steps in getting to an acceptable position, I am pro self-accountability.

I do think online casino have a trickle down business model, when i gamble high i don’t necassaily win big i win about 1 to 3.5 x versus my balance and end up eventually with a cash out point near starting balance or a option to gamble 50/50 for my whole balance. If I’m gambling small I hit big but its never worth it as far as much as I may have gambled. So i mix it up sometimes I gamble big sometimes small and sometimes flip it all on a 50/50. but I have also noticed I get offers from casino on free match bets etc when they think I’m stuck based on there algorthyms, it doesnt help they know my budget from wealth declaration. this is why I think wealth declaration is bullshit. Yes I understand the importance of protecting and safeguarding vunerable adults, but I feel these casino’s etc are hiding under that guise of good intentions to know peoples drop off point and value as a assest/client/customer. all of which isn’y bad for their algorythms. what do others feel about this??

Payday loan companies, who were chucking money left right and centre at people a decade ago are now in the middle of a big phase of compensation claims. The issue of affordability is one of the main reasons for this.

Now if anyone decides in government circles decides  that online gaming companies through not knowing their customers have been negligent in protecting people who have  problem gambling issues, we could be in for interesting times.

How is it any different for a lender to give you money that you can’t afford to borrow versus a gambling company allowing you to chuck thousands of pounds down the drain in their casinos, quite often in the past on credit cards which until more recently didn’t have any limits on the amount you could deposit.

The difference is that the rules and regulations over irresponsible were in place and abused so the “payouts” you refer to now are because they didn’t comply with existing rules at the time.

The casinos have gradually had tighter and tighter regulation about this sort of stuff, but it is still a far less regulated industry compared to financial markets, and even though new rules are being introduced in the gambling world they can never be applied retrospectively.

You will not see any claims against casinos/providers in the same way you have against payday lenders, I can guarantee you that.

As for the original post, I personally think it’s a complete waste of time and effort and I would be surprised if you get a response from 10% of the casinos complained too, and those few responses you do get won’t be positive.
