I made a post around a month ago about my background as a gambler and since then I’m happy to report I’ve still not had a flutter and the bans are working. I just needed to have a rant.

Something happened on Saturday which has severely messed things up. I have savings in my bank account of around £4000 which was untouched for gambling (I can have some sort of control).  So on Saturday my account was cleared out via various transactions (non gambling) through paypal on various flights.  Someone obviously got hold of my details from somewhere and used my card to buy things through paypal.  Now anyone who knows anything about paypal knows they don’t refund people straight away they have to open investigations (they are fookin useless). My bank are just as bad, they want to do an investigation of there own to check for debit card negligence.  So all in all I aint getting any refunds on money that I need for the foreseeable future.

Now you guys may be wondering why I have posted this non gambling rant on a gambling forum.  So because this has happened and both paypal and my bank are not refunding anytime soon its making me think of gambling and going out gambling in order to try replenish this fraud myself.  But I know the score with this it will end up leaving me more out of pocket and homeless.  Those demons don’t give a fuck about if I have a home or not so I need someone or some people to talk to so I don’t go down this route. Sorry to ask this of you guys but I really do need help/advice to stop myself making a bad decision.

    Thanks

So my only advice on this really is to just sit tight and be patient! Your bank or Paypal will refund you if they can prove they are fraudulent transactions. They obviously can’t just gift you the money straight away as they have to investigate it first, and rightly so.

Returning to gambling right now would be the absolutely worst thing to do, as it is a terrible way of attempting to make money. Let this situation resolve itself.

Hi mate firstly I’d like to say DO NOT LET YOURSELF DOWN. If there has been genuine fraud you will get your money back, might take a little time but they have to investigate it, your in the system.

secondly if you have means to gamble then you have means to live.

Dont breakdown, life chucks lessons at us all the time through no fault of our own, it’s how we deal with them that we are judged on.

The fact that you have posted shows your strong character, don’t be weak stay strong your money will be back with you in no time.

Good luck and fight those demons??

Bit confused pal. No mention of a police call. After all a criminal offence has been committed against you. Did you not ring them ?. If it’s id fraud yes you of course would struggle to get your money back going down the route of reporting a crime but its certainly something what most people would do. Well I think anyway.

Biohazard: After it happened I had been reading up on things and banks always use the investigating negligence part to get out of refunding people immediately.  Its alot of money, they should have spotted it and should have been flagged. Thanks for the advice pal.

Hacko1: Appreciate the kind words there bud. I’m trying to hang in there but its so easy to chase the dragon to avoid the waiting time as I have stuff I need to invest that money in. I know how long banks can take and I especially know how long paypal take.

Haz40: Appreciate your reply, I tend not to call them as its online fraud, they always refer you to log your report on the action fraud website which I have done to obtain a CRN. Then when my bank emailed me the form to sign to start the investigation the CRN was provided on there.  Thanks for the concern though

Paypal is a strange one. Cant comment on how it is now but I can give a little insight from a fraudsters perpective. I am not a fraudster or criiminal but I certainly know some very colourful characters.

Paypay used to have restrictions on drawing large sums of money for private sellers in case of fraud. Fraudsters circumvented this by using the funds in their accounts, which paypal wouldnt release in the form of money until fraud checks were done, by buying bullion or the ilk from ebay using their accounts. Thereby circumventing paypal regulations. Paypal and ebay are same owners and really dont care about fraud as long as the money keeps rolling in for them. I will not elaborate any more on this method used by fraudsters as it may lead to copycat behaviour.

I completely agree. My ebay account has been hacked numerous times and I logged on once to find somebody had listed a 20k car for sale under my account. I contacted ebay fraud dept and rather than chasing the money they simply removed the listing. I hope you get it sorted.

@idontknowwhoiam2k16 Sit tight and wait for it to be sorted, I have seen this happen to many people and they have been refunded. You’ve no need to go out and tilt by losing money, chasing the other.

You’ve said this money is your savings, so it doesn’t really matter if it takes a little time for the right result to be reached and the money to be put back in your bank.

It doesn’t matter if the vendor was PayPal or anyone else, if you report to your bank that one or more debit card transactions on your account are fraudulent they must refund you.

You will get your money back mate – either from the bank or from PayPal.

If the money was in your account, your covered under legislation but the bank has to do their bit first to make sure that you haven’t given the card to someone else or have transferred the money yourself. All UK accounts are covered. As long as you were not negligent with your card then you will be sorted

The only time you are not covered is if you authorise the transfer of funds to a scam account (a few people got fucked over by the tv licensing one at christmas). The bank won’t refund that if you have given over personal information

Hi mate, who do you bank with?

if there is a fraudulent payment then you need to walk into a local branch and state the issue and then ask for resolution forms , the bank will then give these forms and you can fill them out and send it via recorded delivery to the head office .

athough it’s PayPal’s investigation your bank will also apply pressure on them while doing their own investigation and also in some cases where fraud is apparent the bank will refund your money and chase PayPal themselves as they have access to high quality lawyers / investigators / AML staff.

also as someone else correctly mention, the police should be a priority in terms of a call
