Tbf I understand jimbos hate for chipmunks and it’s justified, I stated he promotes this site and I’ve seen nothing bud bad reviews and people asking about withdrawals and he never has an answer, ‘it works fine for him’ well it would do and not to be arsey with you xbob but you can’t ask chip anything because he instantly thinks your taking the piss at the end of the day you can’t promote a site then when people get issues not expect to give some advice which he doesn’t do so what do you expect really, don’t get me wrong I agree with jimbo he’s a low life among low life’s is chip but does he blame people for the way he goes on difference when bandit was promoting sites I’m sure if someone had an issue he would sort it out or at least try, and chips doesn’t have the answer because he doesn’t withdraw from the site himself in my opinion and that’s an opinion so don’t jump down my neck for that neither
11st July 2021 at 9:14 pm #1094572nd July 2021 at 11:22 am #109466To my shock I enjoyed the Russell Brand video. He understands most of it I just thought I would add my 2 cents (and 10 paragraphs)
There are 3 parts to the unholy trinity of gambling:
1) Gambling is an emotion, some purple or black to go along with the grey
Win or lose you get the rollercoaster as entertainment. If you read the fine print the gaming experience is what you are paying for and gambling is a part of the entertainment industry. Many sports wouldn’t run or be on TV if it wasn’t for gambling companies. The richest clubs have made the most from gambling and have done since the year 2000. As far back as 2004, Spurs were using Mansion Online Casino as their title sponsor
2) Societal pressure and normalisation
As Russell says, rich people in the gaming industry throw money at lobbyists and politicians, just as the tobacco companies used to do. Sports betting has never been my thing – didn’t have time with the poker and casino – but it’s very normal for people to bet on sports. I’ve had friends who didn’t do gambling (poker/casino) before smartphones. Now they place sports bets all day long while at work. Prior to covid you would meet people at bars/restaurants/cafes and regularly they are using their phones to check bets, often on the most random shit. When you can’t turn on the TV, use your phone or walk on public streets without the neurological conditioning of gambling adverts, it is normal to gamble. People gambled before the year 2000 but never has it been normal for this wide a demographic to gamble this often.
“It matters more when there’s money on it” – Bet365, the UK’s most profitable online betting firm
I know at least a dozen people who I wouldn’t previously classify as gamblers, who became bankrupt, divorced, suicide, because of gambling on their phones. It’s not normal to develop addictions as an adult. It’s not often you hear about a 40 year old waking up and deciding to become a drug addict. Usually the doctor has prescribed them opium first. It’s the same with a 40 year old gambling addict, they never had a problem until they were encouraged or forced to participate
3) The internal narrative
People will rationalise things to justify their poor behaviour. I can speak as someone who was a professional gambler, meaning I was an addict who wasn’t a problem gambler. Under the clinical guidelines you can’t have a problem if you are a winner or your activities don’t impact the other important parts of your life. Doing anything for long periods of time has an impact but it’s medically deemed positive or negative by only one factor – financial success. If you are rich then a doctor will give you a clean bill of health. As a winner of some nice coin over 20 years I used to allow myself to believe it was not problematic to play poker for 50 hours a week. It’s not problematic until you try to move on and discover that part of you is still stuck in your previous narrative. The same thing applies to sports betting but as casino gamblers or poker players, most people believe if they just stay patient or if they play long enough, they will land that big score or make money. The stats say otherwise with only 10% of poker players breaking even and only 1 in 100 making respectable sums of money relative to a 9-5 job
The internal narrative is almost spiritual as Russell suggested, and most people lie to themselves about their gambling. I’m fully aware of my gambling which is why I played poker – it kept me away from other forms of gambling. Poker is the same as a slot machine just a lot slower with more extreme highs and lows. You get numb to it. After winning 1 tournament with like 100 people you feel great. After winning thousands of tournaments with bigger fields and for more money, you just don’t give a fuck anymore. Playing is as normal to me as packing shelves in a supermarket
For other people they tell themselves they aren’t doing anything wrong or that they aren’t addicted, refusing to acknowledge the fact that if you repeat this behaviour it will develop into a dependency. It takes weeks or months to get addicted to smoking (perhaps 6-8 weeks is the best estimate for developing a habit generally). Yes you hear the stories about one exposure and addicted but that’s utter bullshit as we can prove you have to do something at least 3 times before your brain fully grasps the information. You have to smoke a few times when you did not enjoy it to reach the stage which you did enjoy it. Obviously nobody should ever start smoking cigarettes it’s just a very dumb and gay thing to do (speaking as a smoker). If you keep doing it you will get addicted, 99.99%. If you follow adverts and introductory promos from gambling companies, by the time you have got through several welcome bonuses you will have developed a taste. Make it a few dozen or 100 different welcome bonuses, you have developed a habit or an addiction. There is a reason why gambling companies splinter into dozens of different casinos (e.g. Aspire Global, Progress Play, Jumpman, L&L, 888, White Hat, etc). They are one single brand but if they have more casinos they can have more new signups to entice with welcome bonuses. When you consider what is known about gambling behaviour it’s truly shocking how cynical the main players are
So in summary:
* Emotional Content
* Societal pressure/normalisation
* Internal narrativeWhen you combine all 3 and repeat you produce an addict, regardless of the underlying traits of the person
