I hope you do mate, how much we talking !
Although to manage your expectations I would brace yourself for them voiding the win and refunding your deposit only on the basis they never should have accepted it.
28th January 2020 at 1:08 pm #89633First of all, gamban or gamstop? 2 totally different things. If you’re on gamstop and you willing played at the casino, I highly doubt you’ll be paid. At it’s best, you may get your deposit refunded.
Gamban, from what I remember, only stopped you going on those websites, so was nothing to do with self exclusion. Just like a website blocker.
You say you had never heard of the exclusion before, but signing up to these things isnt a small thing to do, and not something you would forget.

Your post is correct i believe he must have meant gamstop :/
28th January 2020 at 1:16 pm #89636Also, hanging around forums about gambling or watching gambling videos, I cant see how this will help and probably isnt the places you want to be either. I mean a recovering alcoholic wouldnt go sit in the pub watching other people drink would they? Because they know that inevitably it would lead to them having a drink….its the same for gambling or any other addiction.
If you really want to quit you have to change your mind set, if you sit around moping and bemoaning the fact you cant have a cigarette, drink, gamble then in the end you will crack. You need to adopt the mindset of ‘thank god I dont need to drink, smoke, gamble…!
Good luck but I fear you have a long way to go.
1128th January 2020 at 1:24 pm #89637There are a lot of recovering addicts on the forum, myself included. We come here for support as well as somewhere to vent. I agree that some people are better off away from their addiction, but being here helps me, and then we, as a community can try to help other problem gamblers.

Phil Mitchell , springs to mind . Owned a pub
28th January 2020 at 1:37 pm #89640How did that work out for him?
Seriously though, I think there are much more superior support networks than this forum.
How many of the ‘reformed’ addicts on here go to meetings of GA for example?
I can almost guarantee any addict that hangs around these types or forums and watches these kind of videos will eventually cave in and gamble as they still crave to feed their addiction.
28th January 2020 at 1:43 pm #89641There is a lot off support on here , people in the same position as them . There was a post on tgc, where a friendship and a simple gift helped stop someone gambling .
28th January 2020 at 1:47 pm #89642It’s easier to give up smoking , with nicotine patches or ecigs. Sort off a bit like that for some people , they still need that bit off a buzz .
28th January 2020 at 6:47 pm #89664I dont know of anyone on the forum who goes to g/a meetings, though I’ve been for counselling through gamcare, a long time ago. It’s not as easy for people to relapse now gamstop is up and running, and the ukgc is tightening up. Unless someone walks into a bookies/casino that they havent excluded from, it’s unlikely they will be able to gamble.

I think that’s invaluable….. also most people just want a chat…. and a faceless natter is more attractive to some rather than a face to face …. there is a lot of emotions involved and talking to somebody face to face is hard as some might feel judged and ashamed or feel somebody is looking down on them …… but of course outside professional help ( when needed ) is always the best….sometimes coming on a forum and being assured that they aren’t the first to fall into this hole by others who have walked in their shoes can be a positive step.. and the members here like winningbird will always point them in the right direction….And yes … coming on here and seeing these vids might stir up those demons ….but sadly like smoking and drinking and over eating and so on there will always be a temptation devil on your shoulder that’s just life …at least on the forum they can reach out …and there’s always somebody here to say hi ……

28th January 2020 at 9:43 pm #8967929th January 2020 at 10:13 am #89671A good post Seyahkram and I can see how it might help to talk anonymously about the issue, though surely dialogue with a trained Counsellor would be more preferable, though I appreciate not always accessible.
In the film Pulp Fiction, Marsellus Wallace talks to Butch (Bruce Willis) about the nagging little thing that is gonna fuck with his mind with the fixing of the fight…..Pride.
I reckon until the addict loses his ‘Pride’ usually through being caught stealing, cheating and/or lieing by family and friends, then they haven’t hit rock bottom and wont address the issue properly. Then professional help is needed. Bailing out the individual is the worse thing that you can do, it’s simply enabling, they will be eternally grateful to you and promise that they will stop now that you have rescue them, then start gambling as soon as your back is turned.
Dr Eric Berne wrote a book called the Games People Play, one of which is the Alcoholic (or Drug Addict or Gambler) and the characters playing the game are defined, I think if you read that you will get an insight into the problem and the ‘helpers’ who ‘support’ the victim.
