    Just a thought

Andy isn’t concerned about the money going in, just any money which might be going out.

Bandit has only himself to blame, he made the mistake of winning big 🙂

I’m with eejit on this one. I work in a landbased casino and my opinions are far from defence of casinos that’s for sure but like eejit has eloquently said if you do this you are saving lives

And yet neither you or eejit give an explanation as to why this is not required when signing up to a casino.   Are you saying that everyone is a potential terrorist but the casino’s are willing to accept their money without any formal ID, but are require it on cash outs.

Sorry, I have said it before and I will continue to say it.  You can’t say we will accept your money and take it within seconds without any verification, but we require it if you withdraw and it could take up to 72 hours to pay you back.

Anyone who is actually desperate enough to stand there taking pictures of themselves with the photo held up as proof and send them in to random offshore sites purely so they can gamble is clearly desperate and needs to reconsider their life choices.

    Fine.

But i need to be careful here. As im not meant to post some of this. Youll see a lot of adjectives 🙂

“Lets say for example” that a player wants to move 1million Euros from his bank to buy a nuclear device. Or part of one. Not sure what they go for now.

Ways to do this through a casino –

1 – Deposit varying amounts from card, play 1 spin, or breakeven BJ strategy, and withdraw to another bank account in another country with Trustly or similar.

2 – Deposit to a casino weekly for 10k from card. Go to the casino and give them 100k in cash. They will add 80k to your account. Player withdraws 90k casino gets 20k for the trouble. (Numbers can be adjusted).

3 – Players around the world all deposit and play fixed odds poker, on the same table, and pass huge sums of chips. One player will be the predetermined winner, he will cashout, funds will be available in their bank for the purchase.

Thats just 3 of about 100.

As for your issue with not asking when depositing… The governmnet want players to enjoy a trip to the casino or online. They put amounts in to place, or “threshold” values, where you need to show ID before depositing or withdrawing a certain amount.

BUT – what you dont realise is the casino does a simple ID check on 3 things when you sign up. Address – DOB – Payment Info. These will simply tell them if your real. These can be gotten around, easily, but its a required check.

Once you deposit 5k you are asking for further proof. Or once you withdraw any amount or 1.5k, depending on the casino.

Some casinos dont like being sued by the UKGC, isnt that right @CasumoAndy 🙂 so they will mess up once then put huge policies in place, rightly, to help players out and avoid any AML and finance issues. Then the UKGC cant touch them, as those fines can be huge (20mil per instance of wrongdoing)

For the TL:DR crowd – Its needed. Just do it and quit whining or 9/11 will be your fault.

Are people that unaware of modern tech and financial crime? its not weird atall. I have had to do the same thing on several bitcoin exchanges I use, its not something I wanted to do but its something that is becoming commonplace and its not an issue is it.

It’s to certify that the image on the ID document is a true likeness of the person presenting it. The lack of face to face interaction makes the risk of money laundering a lot higher. The reason for asking now is probably because they have risk assessed you now you have gone over some threshold of deposits or withdrawals that they now need to complete more enhanced checks. Or they have just brought this initiative in to be more compliant with the regulations. There are  big fines being handed out at the moment and a lot of companies are being caught with their pants down for not doing enough compliance checks.

I find it funny to complain about this … for me it’s to prove who you are … remember your playing in front of a computer ….

    think about this

you go overseas and your at the airport … you give your passport and plane ticket to security, they look at your passport photo , then at you …. to confirm your identity…

you go to a pub , bouncer asks for id to confirm your age , looks at the photo then looks at you …. to confirm your identity…

you go to a bank to get a loan , It is produced , they look at your id( even copy it) and they look at you as you present it … to confirm your identity….

you our deposit and withdrawal thousands of dollars and they are you for a copy of your id and a photo of your face side by side ….to confirm your identity like all the reasons above… because they have no way of knowing what you look like behind that screen ….

get it done and move on

I can see both sides of the fence here. UK AML (Anti Money Laundering regulations) are amongst the most onerous and complex in the world.

KYC requirements would be sufficient for most customers without the need for a selfie but look at it from Casumo’s perspective, if they have an external audit from the regulator and there are instances of fraud/money laundering exposed because they didn’t have sufficient processes in place to prevent this they could lose their UK license. Paddy Power was fined over £2m last year for not having sufficient AML and player protection failures.

When you go to any financial institution with a lot of money (Bank, IFA, Accountant etc etc), Source of Wealth is a very important part of client engagement. You need to prove you haven’t just robbed a bank, you are over 18 and you aren’t a fraudster. The difference with all of these professions, is they are required to go through these processes before you undertake any financial transactions.

Casinos don’t follow this rule, because the authorities have allowed them to accept deposits and if the punter loses, he/she can’t launder the money. It’s fundamentally wrong.

In saying that the UKGC has now insisted that, KYC checks are carried out on registration by Casinos. I am not aware of any implementation date, but it is coming.

For most people, AML/KYC checks will be satisfied on registration in future, but it is the casino’s duty to monitor players to ensure they are not gambling beyond their means and more importantly not using the proceeds of crime to make dirty money clean, by putting it through online casinos. Because of this, as a players profile builds they can expect in certain circumstances to provide additional proof of ID. The selfie with a passport is just one example.

The thing is all these regulations are for the general good however it is your honest punter that gets caught up in the red tape  and the very people it is meant to stop know these things inside out and find a way around the regulations.   For instance I am sure that they have ways of photoshopping  things so that the passport photo matches the face in the photo.   This comes from guy that owns a phone that cannot take a selfie !!. If the govt was serious then there should be a way of matching the photo with the passport office records but then you come up against Data Protection.

Also why do the Casino not have a pop up when you sign up as to what is going to be required as you hit certain “milestones”  from the Know Your Customer Regulations.

Also I can tell you that these regulations do not just apply to gambling organisations but to all businesses.   My mate had a visit from the regulators recently in his business as he sells fairly high value items. He crapped himself when he got the letter telling him they were coming because of the potential  problems that can arise but luckily he had done everything correctly.

A lot of this law is coming from the European Union as anti terrorism measures.

I agree I think it’s all bollocks would they want a selfie with your passport if you had deposited 1.4 million and not be winning. It’s seems as you are on a winning streak they want to put a end to it and it is their way of a cop out, surely the gambling Commission may be interested in your story as you have already provided identification. They are quick enough to take your money but wriggle every way they can to pay out, like all the crap you can only withdraw a certain amount, I would certainly be in the shit as I don’t have a passport all the best Martin
