Just passed my st John ambulance first aid course – may not seem a big deal but as an introverted shy kinda guy it’s a massive deal to me and major confidence boost.
I’m only sharing because a month ago I was in a very dark place, my employer encouraged (forced! Lol) me to go and it feels like the best thing I ever did – it improved my confidence tenfold and helped me understand the bigger picture – it wasn’t even the course, it was the instructor – he was in rwanda, he’s been a back up firefighter, literally turned up an hour late the first day because he had spent from 8pm-4am the night before helping paramedics attend road traffic accidents but still had the time and energy to teach us the first aid ropes.
The man has been shot at in iraq, the medic who stood in front of him when he was injured and treated him was awarded the George cross.
Im very proud a man like him has judged I’m qualified to try and help save a life if I’m needed.it kinda makes losing a few hundred quid gambling seem so petty in comparison.
Best thing I’ve ever done and I recommend it.

Sometimes its good to see the shit side of life as it really puts things into perspective. A close friend of mine once told me that if a group of strangers all put there problems in a pile, you would take yours back and be happy compared to what others go through. Not sure where he nicked it from because he’s thick as fuck but strangely made sense hahaha
St Johns can open up some decent career options if thats what you want to do full time!
119th January 2019 at 12:54 am #40196Thats great to hear and really is a great skill to have if someone collapsed infront of me i would be as useful as a dogs fart. Do you think the experiance of learning was made by the instructor or the sense of achievement at the end? Or both. Hope you never need to use this new found skill and all the best buddy ?

For context, I was booked on the course at least 2 months in advance and I had felt like I was carrying hulk Hogan on my chest ever since.
to answer malky, 100% the instructor – it was clear he was trained by the army – we were literally drilled for example on the recovery position, he started by slowly step by step going through the actions, then it was literally, arm, wrist, hand, leg, head turn Clear. That was at least 5 times in a row. It’s muscle memory now.

Great stuff bro…… Its a tough job, I have respect for all you public service people. Angels of the night ❤️
Like my job it can be thankless, but as you know it gives you great self awareness & compassion for the human race.
Dealing with injured or ill people can be very difficult and it takes a special kind of person to do so.. Big ups manic mania and give yourself a pat on the back, on a regular basis.. You deserve it. ?????❤️
119th January 2019 at 1:58 am #40216I’m just qualified, haven’t had to do it yet, but I’m ready and know what to do. That’s down to my teacher. I appreciate the sentiment though x

Just goes to show you that even when you dont think you can do things some people can bring the best out of you. I bet the wait was worse than the training lol just think if it was a crabbit bitch just there for her paycheque may have been a very different post. Positive influence is very important surround yourself with people like that and life will be great ?
