Hi all, probably a bit of a surprising thread from me, given my reputation around here as a ‘casino defender’, but here we go!
I’ve been playing a lot of Monopoly Live since its release. The RTP isn’t the best (2 and 10 aren’t terrible at ~96%, but rolls are pretty poor at ~93%), but I find it really fun to play, and in most sessions I’ve played I’ve managed to breakeven or profit on it.
Now, the question I’ve been asking myself over and over (and I did actually ask it in another thread a few weeks back but never got a response), is how this game can be regulated and accepted by the UKGC given its current set-up? My gripe with it is, it seems like the only requirement of the hosts is for the wheel to do at least one full rotation. My concern with that is, many hosts utilise awfully slow spins, and from the moment they release the wheel it is obvious what section is not going to land.
So, if they wanted to avoid four rolls, a very prominent, single strip on the wheel, let’s say, they surely quite easily can do this? I’m genuinely surprised that regulation hasn’t ensured the protection of the players by insisting on two or more rotations at the very least. It’s very different to roulette, where there are plenty more variables that make it very difficult for the croupier to land in a specific number or area. Even then, there are experienced croupier’s who are able to land in a certain section of the wheel more consistently than what should be possible. So what does this say about Monopoly Live?
Now, by no means am I claiming anything is rigged. I’m not even saying that the hosts for Monopoly Live are necessarily utilising such a biased method of play. I’m just calling it out that it appears to be possible, and quite easily so at that.
Thoughts?
22nd July 2019 at 12:58 am #74875Wow sucks that Just Basics is still banned lol. Agree with what you say but maybe its because the hosts don’t actually look at the wheel when they spin it? Used to play this loads as found it fun (and the buzz of a potential 10x 4 rolls kept me playing!) and used to really annoy me with their weak spins, I guess they do that to get as many new rounds in as possible.
I’m sure there is a profitable betting system to this game… just haven’t worked it out yet haha!

22nd July 2019 at 1:50 am #74877Only watch monopoly when streamers play , and always wondered about the weak spins (think its always around 10) then 1 with a bit more oomph .
Reminds me of the cartoons in the bookies place ur bets 1 min b4 the race starts, which i thought was well dodgy , as this would enable any computer to count where the best horse or car / dog football team to win would help them acheive their rtp on whichever event they were showing , just enough time for this to happen
If the price is right ,
looks a more trustworthy wheel never ever saw that spinning back 2 or 3 places ??
would luv to see a competition between maybe 10 or so ex croupiers spinning a wheel for say 50 grand who ever lands in the same section the most takes the cash .that would be an eyeopener for the ukgc????
122nd July 2019 at 2:00 am #74878I certainly remember your post regarding this matter on another thread and yes like usual i tend to agree. First question would be if your seeing a pattern is there a way to stop betting on certain spins and just bet on the ones you think are likely to land near the 2 or 4 roll section or is this impossible because you don’t know how many rotations of the wheel there will be. Tbh with a wheel that size even with 3 or 4 rotations after 1000’s of spins you’d get a feel of which area the wheel would stop in making the game extremely difficult to regulate anyway in my opinion. Second question can you bet while wheel is in motion like roulette. I’ve seen very little of monopoly so i don’t know the answer to that. I’d probably say if you think it is possible to avoid the areas containing 2 or 4 rolls then play the game at off peak times but you do seem to be doing ok as you are. In answer to your question I’d guess the UKGC probably don’t like the game but barely let it be available to play.
22nd July 2019 at 7:53 am #74884I hate monopoly live for this reason. I feel like it can be manipulated to a certain area with the force of a spin. I do think they should have at least 2 rotations before stopping on a section. I’d have thought if you spun the wheel enough times over a few months or what ever, you’d get to know how much strength to put into a spin to get it to land somewhere.
UKGC should have definitely looked into this one more.. and dreamcatcher.

I have this same reservation about Monopoly Live. I think the concept is superb and it is great entertainment but those slow rolls really wind me up – if my money is down. Also knowing immediately the host removes their hands from the wheel that 4 rolls has zero probability of landing has put me off getting more involved.
I know the hosts do not look at the wheel as they are spinning but can they see the wheel in a monitor prior to making their spin?
There are 54 segments on the wheel and I would love to know the rate at which 4 rolls lands because I have more than a hunch it is well in excess of every 54 spins.
122nd July 2019 at 9:50 am #74896I wonder if theres a stats board anywhere which tells you the full history of monopoly live since it first started. That would be interesting to see, don’t you think?
22nd July 2019 at 4:41 pm #74921I started playing this for 4 rolls whenever I could see it hadn’t come in for the 64 previous spins (the maximum it can show in history) then waiting till 100 spins in total before placing the first bet. Then slowly increasing stake till it hits, done it 3 times, never again, I know it can go hundreds, probably thousands of spins at a rate of 1/54 chance so stupid to think I had more chance.
Broke even each time, but it the frustration of knowing instantly that it has no chance of hitting the 4 rolls that made me stop, Maybe the dealers don’t try and miss it (and I’m certainly not a ‘the casinos are out to swindle us’ type) but its the fact they could easily make it miss that has put me off.
Saying that, if they took away the human element I bet even more people would believe its rigged, so guess the providers can’t win. Maybe they should do it blind folded and have to spin 3 times before release!
22nd July 2019 at 7:48 pm #74965I haven’t had a look at this myself yet tbh apart from one video that was floating about where it went absolutely monstrous, i will have to have a look what is involved on it, probably be carnage though lol
22nd July 2019 at 8:32 pm #74978Good to see it’s not just me and we’re all on the same page on this one! I may inquire to the UKGC as to the regulation applied to Monopoly Live and their thoughts on some reform. Same goes for Dreamcatcher too, I guess.

Yeah that’s the sort of buzz that keeps me playing really. It has potential, a very high possible win cap (however unlikely).
I know the hosts don’t look while they’re spinning it, but do they have a screen or mirror or indicator in front of them? I’m sure eejit or someone said they had something a while back, but maybe I’m wrong. I did ask one of the hosts on the live chat and they said there is nothing other than a screen showing the chat. So if that’s the case then I’m definitely a bit more comfortable about the whole thing.

Yeah I’m guessing they’re fully aware of the roulette deal, but there’s not much more that can be done with that. Besides, most of the busier casinos normally have huge bets on every single number from various players, so it doesn’t make much sense to control the section even if they could.

The problem is, I don’t know in advance how they’re going to spin it. It’s only after they spin it you can see what may come in and what definitely won’t come in. In regards to your second question, they only start spinning after betting closes.

Definitely! I’ll share what I get back once I get around to querying it with the UKGC.

Fully on the same page bud. As above, I don’t know what they can and can’t see in front of them. Hopefully not a lot! I’d also be interested to see the stats on this. I’m guessing this level of tracking is probably part of the regulation by the UKGC (or other parties) to see how closely the theoretically to actual ends up being.
I wonder if theres a stats board anywhere which tells you the full history of monopoly live since it first started. That would be interesting to see, don’t you think?I’d love to see something like this! I’d love to see it for all games in fact. I work with data for a living, and I love it! Stats are the best. 😀

Yeah that’s the problem, 4 rolls is naturally very unlikely to land given the 1/54 chance. Basically 1.5x more unlikely than landing a single number on roulette. Yeah I guess I don’t have a solution for them on this, and again, I’m not accusing them of any purposeful wrongdoing, I’m just curious as to the set up as it can be so easily biased if they wanted to.
I haven’t had a look at this myself yet tbh apart from one video that was floating about where it went absolutely monstrous, i will have to have a look what is involved on it, probably be carnage though lolWould love to see you give it a go Steve! It is great fun, but sometimes it needs a slightly longer session if you’re after rolls or something mad. Most spins are 1 or 2 really. If you do play, avoid 1 and 5, as the RTP is terrible – ~91% or something mad.

Its slow and boring to watch,so if you add on any of your sunday slots please skip it all unless you hit free 2/4 rolls lol
23rd July 2019 at 7:02 pm #75038I heard somewhere that the segment that it will land on is already randomly selected prior to the host spinning the wheel – they are basically there to give the wheel enough momentum to land on the randomly selected result and to give the illusion that it is their spin that is randomly landing on segments.
However this is what I have heard and what I agree with but might not be the case at all.
23rd July 2019 at 8:32 pm #75045I’m sure I saw a stream where the 4 rolls came in twice in a row , wee monopoly man was well pissed off he had just sat back down
24th July 2019 at 8:19 am #75060Something annoyed me what I saw last night, and I’m not sure if it was coincidence or if it was done intentionally. I was watching a streamer and their previous streams playing monopoly live, when they placed the bet and as the wheel spun, it didn’t accept their bets.. low and behold it rolled in a chance.. next spin he does it again and it doesn’t accept.. lands 2 rolls. The streamer got tilted and left the game, but now I’m thinking was it a coincidence?
24th July 2019 at 10:26 am #75061I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I’m going to make the conspiracy theorists juicy here. @Winningbird, this sort of thing I’ve noticed too in the past. I used to play a lot of online live roulette, where I’d martingale single numbers after 35 losing spins. Every now and again it’d reject my bets on a particular spin and not even joking, it felt like 90% of the time that happened, my jackpot number came in.
Letsgiveitaspin had an interesting one a few weeks ago too. He was playing on Leo and went to play Monopoly Live, but the game wasn’t letting him in despite several attempts. A couple of minutes later he managed to get in, and it had just landed an 8x or 10x multiplier followed by 4 rolls. If he’d have got in, he’d have been it in. The bonus went for over 800x. You can find it on YouTube somewhere.
Purely coincidental, and a little bit of apophenia. But it’s funny how this stuff can feel to us from time to time.
Let me be real clear on my stance here – I don’t think reputable casinos or providers are rigged, but I can certainly relate to those who feel they’ve been personally victimised whilst playing. We remember painful coincidences more than when things are normal.
