Back 8 years ago when all gambling started , I used to go with my friends at gala bingo to play bingo , 2 out of 10 times we won something. After few times, in the brake between, I started to play few quids at the slots machine , and I remember that first big win was around £70 and I was so excited. The slots payed the money in £1 coin and the excitement was big as I had a full hand of money ?.. After that , bingo was not interesting me anymore and I was going there only to play slots. I’ve been lucky at the beginning, I always walked away with profit, but then rapidly luck gone out and start losing quick. Usually on a payday , first stop was the at the slots, I’ve been there for a long time , just to play and hope to get the jackpot … which as far I remember I never got it from gala bingo, and always walked away empty pockets. This went on for a while till I saw a friend playing roulette on bookies, I was watching him playing and one day I saw an advertise at labrokes , if you register online you get £15 or £ 20 ( can’t remember) real money to play without deposit . That money had 30x wagering required. So I registered and played and went playing a game that looked very good and paying. So again I was lucky enough to wager that money and had a £300 balance , I was playing all night and I couldn’t believed I won 300 without no deposit, so next morning I went into the shop and withdrew the money. That game hooked me big time , The moment it start spinning I could almost predict if was a win or not, anyway I started playing only that game and looked very profitable if you took the risk, so I started playing big . I started from £0,60 and ended up £12.50 . Then first time I played £12.50 , after £300 spend, it gave me a bonus win of £2300 and then right away another one £2700 . I remember by the end of that day I had a balance of £6000 , so I withdrew the max amount of £5000. The next day I lost on the same game the rest on £1000. When the money clear in to my bank I start playing the game and won £ 2000 and withdrew and stop playing. So I was around £7000 profit . Then the following days …. you can imagine, out of £ 7000 I took out from cash machine £500 I believe and the rest gone back gambling, with no win to make me stop. Lost all the money then the hard part came. Every payday , make deposits and play and loose. Worked a full week to play for couple hours and lost everything. I had a very hard time after that big win, then after a while, went back to slots machines. Had few jackpots wins , and that happened ONLY when I had few quid with me and played £20. If I walked in with £50 I was more likely to be out profit, then walked in with £500 and walked away with nothing. I can’t figure out now how the hell is this always is happening, I presume when I got less I play more responsibly then when I got a lot more. So I kept playing slots at bookies till I had few months which I literally spend all my wages in a matter of couples hours. I remember going Friday into William hill at 4:30 with 4-500 in and by 6 I only had left 20 in my pocket. That went again for 3-4 months. I was chasing my loosing.i went broke quick and in debt . Then the online gambling boom happened and lots of online casino opened . Ladbrokes changed the website games and could not play that game anymore so I looked on other sites for that game. So I opened accounts to every possible casino in uk , and played each one , with no one seemed to pay anything , till I played on videoslots. I opened the account in 2017 , it seemed ok, let’s say I spend £1000 in one month and by the end of the month I’ve withdrew £2000 in total. So i kept playing only on videoslots , because it seemed to pay back eventually. I’ve had few big wins , going from first win £ 1200 on £1 bet to £1600 . The most I won on £1 bet on Knight life , £1600 . On bet sides. So I was obsessed with this game and I wanted to win big on different stakes above £1 and never won. I think i wagered thousands on this game and lost a lot and never win big above £1 stake. Every time I win big on different games I was going back to knight life slot and loose everything, and that happened 3 times loosing £2-3000 on £5-10 stake. So the first half year at videoslots I had , let’s say double my deposits in profit, then for the other half year I was only on loosing streak . I could not win anything bigger than x200 and even that was hard to hit. Then after a year things gone back to normal and start to win , again the same , overall double my deposits , literally mirrored the year before and back again on loosing streak . This time the winnings came fast , I had like £3000 twice in matter in few days . I usually play £1-2 per stake , and if I win raise to £3-4 . I only played that game on higher stakes and always lost. Well gambling went out of control after been in months of losing, and when I won , kept playing and lost it . I last had £2000 win , only with £100 in , and lost it and keep deposit , so by the end of the day I was £800 in. So i was at a point that no win could make me stop playing and withdrew something . After 1,6 years at videoslots, I was £1000 down and after 2 years £11000 down. I had few wins and lost it again and decided to register to gamestop and stop gambling online. When I played online, I didn’t look interested to play slots at bookies , but now after I’ve self excluded myself online, I start going back to bookies and not going well. Been three times now and lost around £1000 so far. It’s hard because I say in my mind, I’m going in only to play £20-40 and end up loosing everything, and I know if I win I never get back what I lost before as the jackpot is max £500. It’s hard to stay away from any form of gambling, I mean I can not gambling for 2-3 months, but when I do gambling I loose the lot I save in that 2-3 months. Any advice how should I stay away from gambling or anyone made a success of not gambling anymore?!
120th June 2019 at 11:34 pm #70892Thanks for sharing. Yeah winning big on a slot can draw you back to it to try and replicate that hit again. You know it can happen well cause you have seen and done it before. It seems to be a theme with the addiction that winning big like you did is how it all begins. You mention that you go without for 2-3 months without playing saving up before losing the lot. Positive to take from that is it shows you can go a long period of time without playing which is great. If trying 1 of the tools to block gambling all together isnt for you maybe trying setting limits on each site wether it be weekly or monthly. If thats not working you need to ask yourself if this is how you want to be spending your hard earned money. Hopefully others who have been in your situation can help with how they got through it.
Best of luck to ya pal ?

Hi mate, you’ve just basically relived my, and quite possibly, every other compulsive gamblers nightmare here……. And it’s so hard to comment on this thread as you are, in my eyes, still completely addicted…….. I broke the addiction by attending GA for 3 years Their outlook in gambling really clicked with me…. I’ve had massive blips since (9k win on Bonanza) which I spaffed away, but had the awareness to stop when that ran out. Its weird, it’s like you need to be happy with your lot?…… If you win, you have to lose it, if you lose you have to chase it…. That’s the cycle you need to break mate Best wishes

Totally agree with above comments gambling is like any other addiction,I believe if your a drug user, alcoholic, gambler you can
t occasionally have a spliff, cheeky pint,or quick bet on grand national it
s all or nothing because once you start people with addiction(myself included)don`t know when to stop just my opinon.Have you tried GA/Gamban,
Was watching backinamo latest video which suggested ordering new bank card and scratching 3 digit pin off back for online gambling or maybe give your bank/credit cards to close family members trust me get help asap before it totally destroy your life hope it works out what ever you decide good luck
21st June 2019 at 7:41 am #70914There’s only one sure fire way to stop yourself gambling mate.
And that’s having ZERO access to money for a few months.Only having the essentials.
Put this In place and you will have a fighting chance.

Great advice from just basics.
If you have a partner or a family member you can hand over your cards to and they give you a living allowance that’s your best shot. It will also give you an opportunity to talk about your addiction. It’s a hard one to beat, as with all legal addictions it’s so easy to get a fix, but can be done. Just take it moment by moment.
Get a calendar and tick off each day you don’t gamble, it can help motivate you and perhaps when you want a gamble try doing exercise instead. Something simple like 10 push ups. Exercise releases endorphins too and maybe if you are lucky you’ll get addicted to that instead lol..
Good luck.
21st June 2019 at 6:02 pm #70959Thanks for sharing your story. Can you sign up to gamstop for the maximum amount of time? That way, you can save for 5 years or what ever it is and hopefully you will have calmed down a bit with the spending. Limit all your sites to a certain deposit, if you want to keep the accounts open. Only set them to an amount you’re prepared to lose.
Hope you’re ok. 🙂
22nd June 2019 at 7:48 am #71001Thanks all to your comments and suggestions. As I said, I sign up for GameStop and I can’t play online anymore for a year. What’s hard at the moment, is staying away from bookies. I suppose the best thing to do is not having access to money at all and I will probably go for it.
22nd June 2019 at 8:29 am #71022Can you not take someone into the bookies with you so you can self exclude? You won’t have temptation if someone else is with you hopefully. 🙂
22nd June 2019 at 9:57 am #70972Maybe consider switching bank that allows you to block gambling transactions like Monzo? Once it’s activated the only way to deactivate is a phone call to them, where they’ll ask about your situation, and then a 48 hour delay.
22nd June 2019 at 9:57 am #70973My gambling isnt as bad as some of the guys above . However really starting to find it hard to walk away with a win . So say i put £20 on a site and dont win thats fine ile leave it till next week ( set myself £20 a week gambling pocket money ) but say like the other night where i won £700, i raise the stakes and spuffed it away . I did manage to withdraw £200 the trick i use is to withdraw then do a 7 day break so the money is in my account before i get tempted to reverse it . Just need to learn to do it sooner . Chuffed i saved £200 as normally ide of done the lot . Hope this helps
