About 6 months ago I went on an adventure with my brother and his car driving cohorts, an amazing bunch of people who all drive an amazing array of cars. It included stopping over at a truly out of my depth posh hotel where the door man wore top hat and tails.
But before I went, I knew a little about the kind of things they get upto at the meal/dance and one thing they do is raise money for charity. So as some of you know I try to create, computer art and my hand at painting and I decided to hand paint a tshirt with their cruise logo on with the idea being, surprise the chap who runs it and tell him to auction it off.
He decided he wanted the tshirt to be framed and keep it so he donated £120 to the charities they help. That later sparked a little brainwave in me. I kidnapped their vinyl graphics guy and stole shot him and killed him three times and walked away (he’s ok btw) with an official huge logo.
2 days ago, I finally put it to use. I splatter painted then abstract striped bright colours over a big canvas. Which took about 14 hours including drying time and 30 minutes to scrub the bath clean of acrylics. I then dropped the vinyl over the dried canvas, lined it up, carefully placed it, stuck it down, made sure it was stuck and sealed and dodeca checked. Then painted the whole thing totally black. Splattered brown, gold and white. Let that dry for a few hours and then peeled off everything and took a photo.
Posted that on fb and tagged some of the guys. This painting owes me about £60-70. Working at minimum wage and includes about an hour in total scrubbing a bath twice. Here it is :
Oh btw, the car cruise guys is the uk equivalent I guess of cannonball run for those who remember Burt Reynolds.
Well…. the auction runs til midnight tonight and is closed to members of cannon run only. I thought nothing of it expecting nothing much to happen. Stated it is for sale and 50% goes to one of our local homeless outreach programs run by 100% volunteers and donations. Tagged everyone relevant including the outreach team and… well.
First bid £100. I called the ladies at the outreach team, a huge smile on my face. They were amazed, as was I.
Then £120. £150. £200. £205….. trying to remember now lmao. The current bid is £320. I’m not going to jinx it because wow £100 was amazing. If it stays at £320 that’s fookin fantastic.
Oh and I got a commission from the man who put the opening bid. He is also responsible for sharing and tagging everyone so they knew and asked me to extend the auction to tonight as I was so happy at £100 was gonna close it last night.
My share of the proceeds goes to my car fund as that is my legs and as you may know, I wrote mine off friday before last. Strange isn’t it… sometimes you least expect it and somethng amazing happens. Fingers crossed we can do more things like this and hey, if it inspires you to do something, then that’s another win too.

18th February 2019 at 8:50 pm #49610I swore I’d never come back and post on this forum. But can’t resist the car threads. Never heard of Cannon run, but I am part of a group called Sporting bears. Taking disadvantaged kids out for rides in some of my cars.
You wanna give up gambling? Get a fucking super car instead! https://youtu.be/0xx1nnb2r-E
