In a nutshell, no. Legally, if a sum of money is accidentally paid into your bank or savings account and you know it doesn’t belong to you, then you must pay it back. Why you cannot keep it Keeping any money wrongly credited to your account could lead to you being charged with retaining wrongful credit’ under the Theft Act 1968.
You could be guilty of an offence if a wrongful credit is made to your account and:You know the credit has been made incorrectly
You don’t take steps to to cancel the creditquoted from the link
Cost of chasing the money if the player kept it ? Letters calls administration solicitors court costs. Would they pursue trying to reclaim the money.
yeah. I dont think going through small claims is too expensive, and doesnt the guilty party have to foot the costs of the case? Im not down with the law, so I dit really know how it works if truth be told.
I was just pointing out that it is in fact illegal to keep it, as you say though whether they actually chase you up for that amount of money is another thing
15th August 2019 at 6:39 pm #78076offer them 10 free spins on starburst. An alternative would be to charge them an administration fee consumerate with what theyve overpaid.

Your certainly correct in yes it’s illegal but it’s one of them where you could say if it was a shop assistant who gave you change for a twenty when you gave a tenner no doubt you’d say straight away. On the other hand if it was a bank insurance company government or casino you’d certainly think twice about giving it back. Tbh i actually don’t know what i would do. Fortunately I’ve never been in that situation with a casino. Gut feeling though I’d probably keep it.
15th August 2019 at 6:45 pm #7808115th August 2019 at 6:57 pm #78082thanks for the responses, food for thought, I mean I play at this casino regularly, Legally I am not sure I have too, I understand the example of the bank but this was a full transfer that went through its checks and is clearly human error on their part. Surely they account for this and write it off. I think worst case scenario I would not be able to play at this casino further. I like it though, I feel like I will have a curse on the slots if I don’t give it back, They could have offered me some bonus money or something though just as a token.
15th August 2019 at 7:05 pm #78084I would send them an email stating you want from the 2 forms of ID a selfie of them with the I’d also 6 months bank statements they mess all of us around all the time also I would stipulate to them they need to wager the £1500 35x times before they collect it then after that 4/7 working days process time and then 3/5 more working days to hit there bank account
15th August 2019 at 7:28 pm #78086@mcg77 please be in no doubt; if you refuse to return the money, it’s criminal theft. Whether they would pursue it with the police might be up for debate, but the law in the UK on this is clear. See https://www.money.co.uk/guides/can-you-keep-money-accidentally-paid-into-your-bank-account.htm
15th August 2019 at 7:34 pm #7808715th August 2019 at 8:04 pm #78088Keep the money in a separate account and see how far they pursue it. Have a bit of fun, just don’t spend it. May be worth negotiating a half pay back. Honestly. Fuck em.
15th August 2019 at 8:25 pm #78091Betfair paid me twice 7 months ago, £3451. I kept it. Had few emails off them and ignored, won 7k a week ago and they took it off me. Should have closed account really ?
15th August 2019 at 8:27 pm #78092I’m not in the UK
Then check very carefully what the law is in your locality before you spend any of the money. If you’re in a Eurozone country, it’s likely to still be theft and best case is still going to be a civil matter if they decide to pursue it.
15th August 2019 at 9:56 pm #78103Hi,
I am a lawyer and have a couple of points to make.
1. They 100% will not pursue or take any action beyond closing your account/banning you from their sites.
2. Whether it is illegal to keep it is debateable, it’s not as clear cut as people are stating. You have to keep it knowing it wasn’t yours. At first you didn’t notice the extra funds which is reasonable assuming you have a large bank balance and 1,500 could be added without you noticing. The argument is then that you managed your finances according to your bank balance and to have to pay back 1,500 you didn’t realise you had would cause you difficulty. They won’t want the Agro of taking it any further – there is an also an argument that you perhaps just assumed you had made two withdrawals given you play there regularly. There’s so much scope for ambiguity in something like this which is why I can be 100% sure they won’t pursue. Even if they reported it (which is the last thing they would do anyway) it wouldn’t even be looked at.
Your call what you do, but the decision is basically about whether you want to continue using that particular site.
