Not seen that will have a look though as I’m round that area on friday

Pretty decent seasonal comp. Two day event (day two falls on the Sunday in Walsall for the Midlands leg). £115 (£100 + £15), deepstack I believe.

I entered the summer version, Summer Sizzler, and it was a pretty solid tournament.

Let me know if you decide to enter!

There are lots of different views on poker for gamblers, a article i read said that the tournaments aren’t addictive and that’s why the Online poker sites were inventing more and more games that didn’t involve skill and try to replicate the buzz of slots or table games.

for me I love the small buy in big field tournaments that you can play online, and the value for money you can get, you could play for hours and hours with the chance of a massive win for a tenner!!

Ah, see, I hate most of these because they’re often full of fish that call your bluffs down with a single pair haha.

I did always enjoy the $11 Sunday Storm though on PokerStars!

    Well that as well!!

For someone who really really has to do what they can to avoid the slots it helps even if I lose.

i have mentioned this on here before but PokerStars will remove the casino from your home page so you can only play poker. That way if I ever win I don’t just go straight to extra chilli and buy a bonus or 7 and lose the lot!!!

I’ve been playing for many years, and have only ever had the one myself! The one I had was online, never had one live (yet). I’ve seen a fair few!

Hard to get money in the pot with a Royal Flush unless they are unfortunate to have something like 8/9s, FH or Quads (theres a video on youtube on Quads vs Royal, how sick would you be if you was holding quads?)

I play Poker, it’s my main game but I only play micro stakes. My fav tournament structure is bounty builders which I believe is going to be the future of Poker. It removes the stress of cashing as you can make your buy in back just from KO’s but obviously makes the game a bit more bingo like as people will call wide if you have a decent bounty with just about any 2 and it’s the right thing to do in most cases if your put in a spot to risk 1/2 your stack for a bounty that’s bigger than the buy in or the min cash (depending on players left etc).

I will say I’ve started to grow a bit tired of it all though, it’s devastating to build up a roll then move up the stakes and have to move back down after a succession of bad beats, getting it in ahead and losing, knowing that you had to make the call or shove and just getting unlucky, it happens a lot and takes a lot of mental endurance. Same for tournaments as well, making all the right moves and running deep then going out with AA vs a lower pair that hits his set or getting done by a runner runner straight or flush.

Nowadays I’ve just sodded off bankroll management and if I fancy playing for fun I’ll put $25 in when I’m paid and play $0.10/$0.25 cash table if I double up I’ll move to a $0.25/$0.50 table and try to double up then leave and join two $0.25/$0.50 tables and see what I can make from that if I have a good session I’ll keep moving up the stakes until I’ve got enough to take a shot at higher buy in tournaments or cash games. On occasions I’ve risked an entire balance on a heads up game or used the balance I’ve built up to try get lucky satting into a high roller tournament but still no great success as of yet but all you need is that lucky run in a high roller bounty builder to grow a massive balance so I would rather try that then spend hours upon hours, weeks upon weeks and months upon months sticking to bank roll management only to make a very small profit for the time put in and then go on a down swing and lose a lot of it. The main reason I do it though is because micro stakes are very hard to beat, you’ll find people saying that it’s easy but it’s not, you can’t play your own style of poker because playing more hands = paying more rake and it’s very hard to beat the rake at micro stakes and it’s very hard to cash in micro MTT’s since on Stars you have 5000+ people playing that tournament so yeah getting out of the micros as fast as you can would be my advice to anyone playing, if you don’t want to risk your own money doing it then build it up with other forms of gambling or go the high variance route until you have enough to start playing real poker where your bluffs might actually work etc.

In live play I’ve seen a bunch of Royal Flushes. I had one myself playing against the casino (texas holdem). I can’t remember what it paid but it was something gay, like 200-1 on the extra bet and 150-1 on regular ante.  Real odds on that are 650,000-1 and most casinos pay 100-1

Online I see royal and straight flushes at least once a week. I usually play 4-10 tables and a mix of NLHE and omaha variants.

@brookie888 – the tournament games aren’t AS addictive as the slot-type poker games but they also generate less rake. The highest possible rake is always at the lowest stakes, so by introducing these fast-play game type options with low buyins and removing a bunch of the higher-buyin options, pokerstars can tax the little guy more than ever. It’s been a consistent policy since Amaya came in and ruined that company. They massively slashed the rewards program too in favour of pushing people to their new casino.
