Hi there just a question for anyone, gambling has ruined my life since 15 years old I’m 35 now god knows how but I’ve kept my head above water all this time I’ve raised 2 Lovley children work hard in my job and mange to scrap by with pay day loans subs and borrowing the rent and bills, I seem to not be able to help my self even today went in the bookies with £8 got up to £680 but as always left with nothing it’s the story of my life back in my online days one night I won £25k went down to £3k and then miraculously got back up to £20k bare in mind I’m a chef I do t earn that in a year, I’m using GameStop which has worked well with online I’m just wandering if I go into my bookies to self exclude how do they actually know to kick me out if there’s new staff or I go to a local towm or another branch unfortunately in Bath there’s a bookie every other corner just need some advice and hopefully change my life around for me and my kids and not be shifting my self and having palpitations every time bills are looming because I’ve shoved all my wages in mighty black night
14th January 2020 at 3:47 am #88506Hey, sorry no one replied to you sooner. Great to hear you’ve taken the first steps and joined up to gamstop. I would go around all your local bookies (with no money to hand) and ask them to self exclude you. If you see one in the street and you feel your self gravitating towards it, take 100 steps in the opposite way or past it if you need to go that way, and then name in your head 5 things you can see. Don’t even look at the shop. Though bookies weren’t my weakness, I found it hard to walk past an arcade in service stations, and this helped me at times. When you’ve got no cash available, or if you’vesomeone to accompany you, go back to the shop and ask them to self exclude you. Set yourself a daily limit that you can withdraw from a cash machine to something low, and only carry enough cash on you for that day. Leave your bank card with someone you can trust, if you don’t feel like you can be trusted with it. I’m here if you need anymore advice 🙂
114th January 2020 at 8:55 am #88515I signed up through MOSES, they were brilliant as 1 phone call of no longer than 5 minutes sorted my exclusion from all the bookies in a large radius.
1 day a new bookies opened, for months i didnt enter until 1 day i really wanted to do a bet on a big horse race that was off that afternoon, I tried my luck as I didnt think they would have my MOSES application as when i signed up they werent open, however after about 30 minutes in there the guy came up to me with my MOSES form and asked me to leave, he was chilled about it as i explained I didnt think this shop was included but the whole situation as you could imagine was pretty embarrassing.
The good news is the horse won and i left with a tidy profit, Im also glad that i was asked to leave as it shows it works and means there is no chance now i will risk walking in to there or any other shop again.
A lot of people criticise it saying that the self exclusion doesnt work, but its 100% success rate in my case.
Take a look on the website and give the number a call, you wont regret it
114th January 2020 at 10:47 am #88507Bit different here in New Zealand, but usually you tell them you wanna self exclude and you’ll fill out a form, provide ID and they have some facial recognition camera that tips them off if you try to sneak in. Shame ain’t worth getting kicked out for two or three spins.
114th January 2020 at 1:35 pm #88541hi,
no matter how many obstacles you’ll put between you and gambling there will allways be an alternative to gamble if you really want to… the complete lack of any money source is the only real “cure”… ironicaly, you’ll get there if you’ll continue gambling !… so it’s all about your will power but try to stop before it will be too late. gambling what you afford to lose it’s not an option, just stop, find another adrenaline source, play with the kids,do sky diving or whatever and when you see a gambling machine just think that’s boring, not fun at all, meaningless… what’s done is done, you’ll never be able to turn back time but you still have the chance to enjoy the rest of a happy life with your familly so forget whatever you lost or won, just step on a different path, there are plenty of people who don’t even care about gambling, people who never gambled a penny,be one of them! it’s not easy but it isn’t that hard either.stop thinking it’s hard to stop ,think that it’s piece of cake and just do it. you need to really dislike everything about gambling… nobody will help you when you’ll be broke, keep that in mind and everybody else will laugh at your back, some will probably cry for you, most will avoid you …you’ll be alone . so think that (i hope) you’re still in time to stop and do it . fk the bookers, the casinos, the bookies! they all suck and they get richer with any penny you spend there…. so,starting today, try to pass in front of a bookies shop and think to yourself: “i used to waste all my money here, what an idiot i was! fk it! ” …
i’m now in the point that i can’t pay my debts ,i got no hope for any financial support at all, i can’t sleep nights,i hate myself,i’m desesperated and my life sucks. i don’t see any real exit for this and i’m afraid to think about tommorow…i destroyed my life and my wife’s life already,i got nothing to care about anymore in this life.i don’t even believe in miracles anymore. Do you wanna be like me?? keep gambling!
best wishes

2214th January 2020 at 8:49 pm #88596Thankyou guys I guess it’s a start that I constantly think in a fucking idiot most days at home I think over and over In My head what a twat, but even today I had my last £40 for the month in my pocket even after writing to you guys and thought ah 20p spins can’t go wrong now I’m subbing from work so I do t look like a prick to the misses as we needed bread and bog roll, I do mean well though when I win and actually keep it I spend it on everyone else anyway, but if just love to have one payday where it’s not paying back gambling debt or covering some kind of loan from the month before, I’m having to hide a £400 a month high interest loan plus the day to day cost of living I really do want to stop, I used to think watching bandit and stop and step etc would help me relive my thirst it’s used to but now I just want to emulate what I see but even when I do win the £500 jackpot which unbelievably happens fairly often il leave with noting because il just switch game bang on the stupid new special spins (the old £50) think it’s to much money to leave with noting then sure enough it all goes, I’ve put a block on my card block on internet so I’m hoping the bookies will be a start to the end thanks for all your replies

While you are really suffering at the moment it’s great that you have commited it to writing in an open forum and taken positive steps to stop.
You really ought to consider telling your family as their support will be far more effective than all of the other measures put together. Would you trust your wife to handle all of the family money for say six months. If you have no money to gamble then the ability (and temptations) would be disallowed. She will probably go ballistic at first but after the annoyance/anger/disappointment/ recriminations it’ll all settle down quite quickly and you’ll be in a better place with someone to share your route to recovery.
I wish you well.
1117th January 2020 at 9:38 pm #88752Genuinley self exclusion doesnt work in bookmakers. As yiu stated it can be different staff who dont reconise u. Plus there is always another bookmakers in another town. The only way it would ever work is if the bookmakers put finger reconition on the machines. And if ure self excluded you wouldnt be able too play them. It really comes down to willpower.
118th January 2020 at 2:15 am #88763There is a place you can ring that will exclude from any bookies that you choose and trust me it works I won’t step foot in a bookies now for the sheer panic of the booming voice SORRY MATE YOU CAN’T BE IN HERE and then be unceremoniously frog marched out it’s happened once before and never again I will look up the emails for a contact number it was all done via email and phone call and for some reason once you sign up with these (it’s free) the bookies take it extremely seriously hope this helps buddy

Its MOSES, stands for Multi Operational Self Exclusion Service or something along those lines. lasts for a year but then its a simple call to call up and extend, I’ve done it for 18 months now. After the year you also have to call up to remove it and then wait 24 hours before going in, it doesnt automatically drop your details from the server. MOSES works and you can exclude from all in a certain radius, im now excluded from all bookies within a 20 mile 15 mile radius from my house, think theres about 40 odd on my self exclusion list, definitely works and definitely worth doing its so simple to set up.
