If successful after a few months your suppliers should give you 30 days credit as well. Some get up to 90 days but they wouldn’t do this straight away. If your credit is good you could lease the vehicle instead of buying outright. Whatever you try and do my advice is to keep it as low risk as humanly possible.

I found a site that sells the peddle trike things for a grand but then it’s the other costs like you say which could fuck me like licencing and everything.. I’m hoping to have around 3k potentially more if I can raise a bit from family and stuff, it’s funny I get nervous about the thought of risking 3k on a business but I easy play that a few times over on casinos each year lol

You might also want to read into government small business loans, t

Whats the score with those as my credit rating is fucked due to previous gambling issues,

Does your personal credit affect your eligibility for business loans?

Your Delivery Partner will run a credit check to assess if you’re eligible and, in line with our commitment to responsible lending, determine if you can afford the loan.   It will be based on your credit record, affordability and the viability of your business plan.

So the way I read that there is more leeway as opposed to a bank which will just run a computer check which generates an automatic decision

Yeah I just had a look and got the same thing, unfortunately I have the worst credit going, can’t even get a tenner pay day loan or a twenty quid overdraft ? I spent a long time making silly choices

I wonder if theres a way to do it through someone else like my sister or something, like have her get the loan and then I replace her as director once it’s done.. Not sure if that’s possible though lol

I’m guessing she would be responsible for setting up the limited company in her name, which would also mean that she is responsible for the loan, tax returns, etc etc.  Anytime you try to circumnavigate a process there is always the danger of an arse kicking from the authorities

    I hope she’s close 🙂

Yes that’s possible. You could put yourself as company secretary where she could be the director. It would be her signature on everything though and she would take all the risk.

If you’ve got a shit credit score, like me, then there’s no other way but to tighten your belt and save like a MF.  I play a game with myself to save as much as I can every day, for example, I’m taking the boy to McDonald’s later and will use the code on the receipt to get myself a Mac and chips for £1.99 and then we’re going bowling for which I’ve got a groupon thing for £5.00.  Be a drone for another year and set yourself a target.

I’m saving like a MF at the moment as I’ll probably be made redundant in the summer.

Hi mate I don’t know how handy you are but a great little business to set up is a decorating business, all you need is a advert in your local paper, a little van or car and a few tools to get you going, you get the customer to pay for their own materials and you just crack on with it, you’d be surprised at how many people use decorators.

you can make good money and have time to yourself as well, I can help you with pricing up jobs etc etc if needs be.

I would not advise setting up a company to trade straight away as a lot of the benefits will be lost to you at the start eg you are likely to have to sign personal guarantees to get any sort of finance from a bank as well as offering personal assets as security.   A lot of people will not give you credit until you manage to build up a trading relationship. A company also has higher running costs due to legal filings and an audit that has to be carried out every year which costs more than just producing accounts.   It might be an idea  to find something that is more labour intensive so that you do not need so much capital to start up but you get rewarded for the hours you put in.   Also if you have a driving ban it will be hard to do any work requiring delivery  not to mention the insurance premiums.   If you have a ban how are you expecting to get to  places to do work.   At the moment it is easier if you are based in one place.

I would also advise going self employed only  if you have a solid  capital back up or can afford to live on not very much.  If you have a high rent or mortgage and family commitments this can cause a lot of stress.

If you get an idea and want to approach a bank or govt loan place you will need to have  a realistic business plan and also cash flow forecasts as you will want to look like you have approached this in a professional manner.

I hope that you find something which may suit your needs.   As someone says selling Ice cream is very seasonal and whilst the money would look good in the summer you would need to make enough money in 5 months to last you for a year.

You would need a reasonable amount of capital to set the vehicle up with equipment  and also not much use with a driving ban

I set up my own IT business about 10 years ago and it’s still going strong.

There are upsides and downsides of course.  For example, in a 9-5, usually you finish and you don’t have to think about work until the next day, but I find I’m working quite a few hours at night each week to keep the work coming in.

I don’t have a boss, but I do need to think about funding my own pension, training, sick etc.

Good luck, if you want it enough you can make it work.

Sounds like that could be a sound idea for the summer months, even if it ain’t scorching outside you will still make a nice profit most days unless it’s raining as long as you are the most popular vender.

My bit of advice would be to make sure you accessorise a lot! If you have all types of different toppings (sprinkles, fruity/chocolate sauces, flakes, crunchies) and a good supply of cold canned drinks and sealed ice pops/creams then your much more likely to get custom. I remember as a kid I’d always go to the vendor with the most variety. With that said you would need a pretty decent sized cart.

I’be been thinking of ways to make a bit extra on the side and I think I may try to breed some tropical fish to sell on, if I can get a tank and a nice set up going and get them to start breeding then the upkeep would pay for itself after selling the off springs using gumtree and Facebook selling pages.

My cousin used to to exactly that with tropical fish, he used to sell them to a local petshop in Scotland
