A few years ago, a friend approached me with a guaranteed way to make some money.  As most people I wanted proof. He showed me transactions. He made some so I said I’m in.

A group of casino including virgin games and jackpot joy had forgotten to check their game Super Monopoly Money so we took advantage.

Sign up, deposit £100 and get an extra £200 so playing with £300. For those not familiar with the game, you spin and want to get the SMM symbol which put money in your SMM fund. So you played your £300 and left the balance as low as possible. Wait 24 hours and log back in. Go to your account and the wagering restriction would vanish. Go to the wheel and it would auto offer you 5 times what you have accumulated in your SMM fund. Take the 5x and withdraw.

At first I thought it was a 1 off, 16 accounts later I’d taken approximately £10,000 off them for £1600 stake.

Someone told someone who told someone and it must have looked suspicious because not long after they fixed the problem. Shame really.

Fair play, I enjoy stories where people are able to get one over on the organisations we give our money too.

Sporting Bet had a Poker  promotion back in 03 or 04 where if you played 500 raked hands they gave you a £50 cash bonus at the end of the month.  Playing at 0.01/0.02 used to take half a day grind and you only played premium hands.  It was basically free money.  Peanuts I know but I enjoyed getting it.

It’s not stealing or even cheating. It’s gaining an edge. Is card counting on blackjack stealing? Is edge sorting on Punto banco stealing? If the casino allows a player to play a game and that player manages to gain a edge then it’s the casinos duty to nullify that edge.

They used SIXTEEN accounts to abuse a glitch and you don’t see that as stealing? There is a world of difference between an advantage player and a thief.

an edge is not knowingly exploiting a software glitch for profit across multiple accounts on sites where your allowed one ..

I agree with @Run187 here. I think if it was just the one account, something that happened one time as a nice surprise, I’d be saying fair play, enjoy the money. But to create 16 accounts to take advantage of this issue, which could have cost the business a significant amount of money, is incredibly exploitative behaviour.

For the record, advantage plays such as card counting, I’m in full support of. It’s something I used to do myself, but as was said above, there is a distinction between these two acts.

I do understand his and your point of view, morally is isn’t that ethical I agree but there are some games and sidebets that casinos use that have up to a 19.43% house edge. As you know this number is incredibly high and imo is as morally unethical as making sixteen accounts to exploit a glitch to gain a advantage.

When I worked at Grosvenor casinos one of the touchbets had  a glitch in the system, basically what happened was £20 notes were being processed as £50. My question to you is would you only put that one £20 in or would you take advantage and put more in? Another one (true story) a auto roulette wheel had  been incorrectly made and it had 2 halfs of the same wheel. In one night 2 players made around 17k between them before the mistake was realised. The casino had no legal right to get that money back. (Casino did ask and were refused and subsequently barred) would you exploit this and make a decent wedge? And if you did would you give the money back if caught despite no legal obligation to do so?

Imho it comes down to morals and ethics. If I found a wallet or purse with money in it, I would and have found the person to give it all back. I know many people wouldn’t which I would consider thievery, but  faced with these questions that I have asked I would 100% take the chance and I would not consider myself or anyone else a thief who did so.

Sorry @Dynamik23, I wasn’t questioning your morality. It’s definitely not as clear cut, ethically, as some other examples that people have posted here over the years.

Also, I do agree with the whole side bet house edge situation, I love side bets for the volatility, but the sheer amount of edge on them is disgraceful most of the time. And they don’t make that easy to view either.

In all of your examples, I would make the party in question aware of the situation so that they could rectify it. I’ve played a lot of blackjack in casinos over the years, and the amount of times that the dealers have overpaid me is crazy. But I always make them aware of it and give them the money back, as it’s the right thing to do and so they don’t get penalised as a result.
