Seems that the UKGC have just informed all UKGC licences operators to remove slots containing feature buys with immediate effect.

Examples being any BGT Feature Drop or Blueprint Feature Buy.

Been following this on Casinomeister, it’s an interesting read.

Good. I’m sure over on Casinomeister they’ll be bemoaning how their right to be degen addicts and financially ruin themselves is being forcibly taken away from them, but feature buys are poison. I’ve said it before, they’re just the online equivalent of the now banned £20-£50 mega spins on FOBTs, allowing a player to lose thousands in mere minutes with very little comparative chance of making their money back the further in they sink. Tbh I’d support the UKGC if they forced all online slots to be limited to max £2 per spin.

I’ve been trying to play extra chilli and it won’t load, so this would explain it, I think this is probably a good idea

If you plan playing 100 quid spins on 1 of these games and decide to just buy the bonus for 100 then leave it regardless I don’t see any harm in it. You could have thousands of spins without a feature or buy is for 100.

What they should ban is every casino spamming your email trying to tempt you to spend your money, they go on about sensible playing but hound you via email?. They were meant to make the most per spin £2 but that hasn’t happened?.

My gripe is with the buy feature then gamble like in Extra Chilli. That should have been banned from day 1. For a problem gambler on Extra Chilli you could lose what £2,000 in <10 secs then rinse and repeat. I have had Chilli Feature Buys go >5 spins losing the first gamble multiple times. So it has the potential to lose £10k in less than a minute. That is absolute madness.

I even did a trial on £10 feature buys on EC to see how long it would take to get to 24. I gave up on my first time reaching 20 spins because it cost me £160 to get there once….. for 20 spins on a 20p stake feature….. Got back about ~£15. Imagine on £2k feature buys thats £32k in to return what £1500. This took what 10 mins max.

I dont see the issue with the buy feature and actually get a feature straigh away ala White Rabbit or Book of Gods. At least there you are going to get something… albeit possibly 1x but still you see some action.

    Good !!

Any enjoyment you get from slots, significantly reduced not to mention have you ever played Chilli when tilted – I swear it can sense it. Good move, shame as it was quite a nice unique feature but the Blueprint megaways games have ridiculously saturated the market I’m not surprised this has happened, I can only imagine the damage they have done to folks.

It might bring some actual enjoyment back and decent streams/content.

I think this is a welcomed decision by the UKGC.

I never did understand how “Feature Buys” even got the green light in the first place, as it was very irresponsible idea and far from promoting responsible gambling. Glad to see an end to it, not that I ever really was into Buying Features myself. But the few experiences I did have with such slots namely Extra Chilli I always thought to myself “Is this even legal?”.

I’ve seen/heard some serious horror stories from that slot even on mediocre stakes. Anything that protects players the better, these “Feature Buys” have probably created more problem gamblers than even FOBS did. More recent “Feature Buy” slots have started having buy in of 125x or higher, so i’m glad they nipped it in the bud before it gets out of control.

The only bonus buy that I’ll miss will be White Rabbit.  That’s because losing features still usually returned at least 50% of the buy-out amount.  Returns of around 15% were rare on White Rabbit, but were common territory on slots such as Fat Santa, Book of Ra, Fishin’ Frenzy and Temple of Treasure.

What I have got to ask though – where do we stand with the 99% RTP ‘hi roller’ spins?  I think this applies to Barcrest only.  Possibly only on Sky Vegas but might be on other sites too.  You buy ‘packs’ of base game spins (usually 5 or 7) for either £20, £30 or £50 with a base bet of £1.  So they cost a similar amount to bonus buys but they don’t guarantee a bonus.  It’s just 5 or 7 base game spins with different rules from the normal single play base game and they may help you fast-track to the bonus but most of the time you won’t get a bonus.

Some Barcrest slot examples that have ‘hi roller’ are:

Rainbow Riches (Pic n Mix version)

    Monopoly (Big Event version)

    Legend of the Pharaohs

    Ooh Aah Dracula

    Big Foot (possibly?)

    Jewel in the Crown

    Lucky 5 Reeler

    The Big Cheese

Was looking on casumo this morning, and the option to buy on Genie jackpots megaways has gone. Not checked the rest as yet

I think Megaways and bonus buys have produced games focused on extracting the most money from addicts. Glad to see them to. Only one I ever played was White Rabbit for £10 and I will miss that – it was a fun game.

I predict UKGC taking a similar stance on games focused on building something up over hundreds or thousands of spins, e.g. lil devil and kingmaker.

I think another reason they might have removed is it was never clear what the RTP on bonus buys actually was. They have to publish the number for the base game but it always seemed like the bonus buys paid significantly less.

Judging by the Bandit’s latest video, the UKGC will be cracking down on those Jewel Strike ‘epic spins’ next.  It’s where you bet £25 or £50 instead of your normal stake.  It removes 10, J and Q, leaving the top 6 symbols.  It is £25/£50 PER spin!
