The UKGC has announced some changes this morning, which I’m sure most people will welcome.
The first one is that ‘online operators required to participate in multi operator self exclusion scheme ‘gamstop’ from March.
I really hope this means curacao based sites too.
The second change is that gambling on credit cards will be banned as of april 2020.
I’m really happy about this one, as I know most get into debt through gambling this way.

14th January 2020 at 9:24 am #88518It’s definitely a step in the right direction and will hit online casinos hard.. I expect some of the shitty genesis casinos to pull out of the market.. and there will only be the big ones left.
I hope it doesnt lead though to problem gamblers withdrawing cash from their credit cards at horrific rates then putting it in their current account to gamble …
I can see that being an unintended consequence
14th January 2020 at 9:50 am #88519Isn’t using cc to deposit classed as cash advances anyway ? I always thought it was just like taking cash from the cash point, same interest rate ?????

Absolutely, I recon most gamblers would be in different places if the reverse withdrawals were scrapped……or reduced to a short window… I think it’s quite a big issue…my vs account, if I withdraw at 1 (I swear blind) by about 1.10 the option has gone ….
14th January 2020 at 1:50 pm #88543Both positive steps in the right direction. There will always be loop holes but not allowing deposits on cc’s is the right way to go. Gambling addiction is a huge problem.
14th January 2020 at 2:32 pm #88548Gambling with money you do not have is really bad and banning casinos from taking credit cards is a really good idea.
The thing I do not understand is banning bonus buys yet allowing equally large stakes on other casino games. The £2 limit on all bets on UK facing casinos, like in the bookmakers, would be a really good rule. There could be a different part of the online casino for people could gamble at higher stakes after a strict vetting procedure.
I think that the casino should be obligated to show the RTP of all games up front when the player clicks on the game and not have it hidden away in the information sections.
The UKGC should also be able to prosecute any streamer who promotes gambling at any non-regulated casino. Streamers would be required to keep full and auditable accounts of their gaming. If rules ot laws were broken both the streamer and, where appropriate, the casino would be liable to fines and in really bad cases liable to imprisonment.
Gambling has to be fun but it has to be safe fun (as much as is possible anyway)

I think you make some good points. Banning bonus buys must have been based on something but you can still stake £1k on a single game of deal or no deal which does not make sense. As you say you can still go high stakes on many games raking up large loses very quickly as well. Was any particular reason given for banning bonus buys does anyone know? Maybe limiting the number of bonus buys per session would have been better option. I enjoy mega way games but they can take forever to bonus and being able to have the option was really good I thought.
I 100% agree with legal action against unregulated casinos and any that promotion them.
14th January 2020 at 5:41 pm #88574Credit cards gone as promised to that guy last year who said it wouldnt happen. Finally!
Also curacao – they wont ban it for them sadly. Or do the gamstop thing.
14th January 2020 at 5:51 pm #88576Why not? Surely if a uk player can sign up, they should be able to gamstop?
15th January 2020 at 3:41 pm #88643Why not? Surely if a uk player can sign up, they should be able to gamstop?Because it’s not an area they can touch. It’s like the Government saying ‘don’t go to Microsoft.com”
I guess one step to slightly hinder the rest of the casino’s on the planet, is they COULD have ISPs block all non approved casino IP addresses, but obviously a few clicks with a vpn and that won’t work.
