Hi
I felt my gambiling was getting a bit out of control recently opened a few new accounts just to try the sites set my deposit limit straight away.
I have closed most of my accounts properly self excluded. I have kept 2 that i use consistently with deposit limits set. The limits dont renew for awhile but i feel Sh!t for opening new accounts when I have been controling my gambiling so well. Im tempted to go down the bulk self exclusion because of this but I do like to gamble and i dont use bookies. What would you do?
Any advice is appericiated.
22nd September 2019 at 1:29 pm #80492Thats a pretty dangerous spot right there. Just talking out of experience. Im exluded from them all, because over time i developed bigtime gambling addiction and working hard to overcome it.
No one win on the slots. Slots are just as addictive to the mind as drugs. Some can do drugs just fine, others destroy their life on it. Same goes for slots.22nd September 2019 at 1:32 pm #80493I would think of it this way…
Imagine yourself in 5 years time, you haven’t self-excluded and continue to gamble. What are the chances of your life being better for gambling? What are the chances of you being broke? That sort of thing.
Now imagine yourself in 5 years time having not gambled at all; self excluding from everything. Do you believe your life would have been diminished through not being able to gamble? What are the chances of you being able to save that cash and having a nice wedge behind you for emergencies, holidays, presents etc.
The choice is obvious, but in reality not so easy.
122nd September 2019 at 1:51 pm #80502If I stick to my deposit limits which I do because that months break in between deposits lets me cool off and I never won anything the whole year I would be down £2400 per year.
Which when you look at it that way is a lot of money that could be used for nice things. I use my accounts for slots and sports as it keeps me away from the bookies which was my main problem for awhile.
As long as I stick to my deposit limits Im not losing what I cant afford. I do take the point though if I save it gets me a lot of other things. I like gambiling though and im worried if I dont do it online I will end up in the bookies to do my football and horses
22nd September 2019 at 7:17 pm #80525All depends on the person, separate bank accounts could help with a partner in control of main account and sending limited funds to another only for gambling. It could work doing it yourself but better with help as nothing much to stop you just sending more into that account. Really tough to answer as stopping all together is prob the best option for most that is 1 way that has helped some people i know. Good luck
22nd September 2019 at 9:26 pm #80532Ban yourself from everything. It’s hard at first but worth it.. I did tge same but then ended up using arcades to get my fix. But that was short lived as the rtp is like 80%. It soon makes u realise what’s the fucking point. It takes the initial blanket ban to get things rolling. U will sort over avenues but it doesn’t take long to realise everything else is utter shit and it makes it easier to quit… I still waste money on a shitty pub bandit every once in a while, knowing I’m going to lose. But it’s better then thinking I’m going to win a nd spunking all my wages

23rd September 2019 at 10:52 pm #80606You obviously feel like it’s something you need to do, pr you wouldn’t have thought about the idea. I would sign up to gamstop and watch all the money you save from gambling build up in your bank. Good luck 🙂
24th September 2019 at 7:59 pm #80641Honestly mate, I was in this position about a year ago. I wish I’d have just gone ahead and never gambled again. Since that day despite making deposit limits etc with over 1000+ casinos out there still managed to gamble in the 5 figure region. Each relapse is harder with the more casinos I exclude from, so the damage is lessening, but I am always reminded of the horrible damage gambling has caused when I see my money go to repaying debt every week. I have it lucky in the sense that it’ll only be there for another 5 or so months. Others aren’t.
What I’m getting at here is that while it starts out being “only 2400 a year” the nature of the beast will turn that figure tenfold. Get out while you can.
25th September 2019 at 1:17 am #80645Thats the Gamstop done. I actually went in and self excluded my active accounts then set up Gamstop. I just feel a bit ugh now though bit if im going to try giving up properly then as well just going for it n doing the full five years.
I always spent my limits online but I will only go into bookies if I have time or can be bothered as I dont like them and the machines arent an intrest anymore. It would be for a weekend football coupon or lucky 15. If I did one every weekend I would be about £10 – £15 I also found that the machines created a negative atmosphere in the shops as well. I doubt I will ever be gambiling free but taking the slots bit away will be better as I spent the bulk of my £200 limit on them.
I suppose i never realised how easy online gambiling was and the fact I never saw the money as a physicslal thing just numbers on a screen. Its different with cash in your hand.
I should add I was bad for the FOBT for years as a time killer when I worked in town as there are so many of them but since the £2 stake its killed them for me. I did like the fortune spins and roullette before the having to hit the bar to win a spin that doesnt win or the XO style of winning fortune spins that dont pay anything.
25th September 2019 at 6:49 am #80646Well done on signing up to gamstop. You’ll feel a lot better for it 🙂
