Once again….. they have refunded the 2k donation. To me this time as i did it from my own card having been sent it directly by Paul – what the fuck are they playing at lol! I will now just send it directly to the charity when we have closed the campaign and withdrawn what has been sent to it so far. What is strange is i have obviously also sent 2 other donations in Yidfathers Swarm and Retros Quiz Prize, are they sending them back too? Bloody annoying lol!

It might be the amount mate – thinking of it from their point of view. Most of the donations have been less than £20 (with a couple of exceptions) then comes a decent £2k. It might be their money laundering rules or something – not sure as never used them before (and probably wont again hahaha). I think just keeping it then adding it to the total is the best way forward.
I think it helps that there is a good mix of different age groups and people in different stages of their gambling “journey”.
Some are on unbeatable runs.
Some have done their bollocks in – but this is dependent on circumstances. Some people can say “ive lost £100 and im broke”, but others (including myself) have lost a lot more over the years (houses, wives, family etc). I think the balance is good as it allows people to share their experiences and give helpful advice.
No matter what you do, you will always find someone who will try and take advantage; but after a couple of posts its easy to see who is genuine and who is attempting to gain sympathy or get free money.
Most of the advice on this forum (i believe) is from people who have “been there, done that, lost the lot” and it can be helpful to people. A few years ago when I was really in the shit, it would have been great to come on a forum like this (ended up using GA which really was helpful if I am honest).
The people who are here to try and blag a few handouts will soon move on when they don’t get them. But I dont think theres anything wrong with wanting to help people who have been active in the forum, have asked for advice and done what most of us have done at some point, which is put themselves in a really shit position in life. If the forum/community can help just one or two people I think its worth it. Plus some of the threads are quite entertaining!!

Slots and sports bets on pp..2017 was -35k..shocked me. Toned it right back since then.
Poker has always been good for me (so far) but would see epic losses in other gambling areas (abit like the bandit posted re FOBT’s). Helped me streamline massively.

I keep a similar setup for poker every year. Really helps to identify where my weak points are and get a good grasp of the total at the end of the year

Probably down to the amount, he has said that he will just send it direct to me if he can’t get it to stick and then i will of course just add it to the total to be donated going forwards so no drama.

I play quite high stakes cash game poker and have no issues with pulling up a few grand, no fear or fuck all. Same with betting on the NFL. But other things such as slots or roulette gets me nervous about having a couple of quid on. It’s quite a strange feeling and makes zero sense lol

We have a fantasy football league in work. It’s only a tenner to enter and I refuse. I think I’m not doing a tenner on that what a waste of money. Leave work and go straight to a private cash game. It’s weird how the mind works.

I think that the biggest issue is knowing who is legitimate. I know some people do there bollocks in and are using the forum for genuine help but others are after hand outs.
It’s a difficult one but I do believe some of the topics are very entertaining. I think it will call down soon when people realise they are not going to get free stuff.
People should take stock of their situation as what is a catastrophe for some is just an everyday occurrence for others: your world will not end without a laptop or tv (my IT department gave me a new laptop but I was very clear in my post I would get one from them and wasn’t asking the Bandit for one lol). Not sure if they will replace my tv though, will ask them when back in next week haha.
As you say priorities have to be mortgage/rent, food, bills, petrol/travel and then spunk the rest on what you want.
Can you not claim on your house insurance for them? If so make sure they know it’s the latest Mac book and 55i imch smart screen tv that needs replacing
Funnily enough Mrs W is the same when I play poker. Expects a cut if I win. If I lose I still have to give her money because if I have money to lose at poker then I can afford to give her money. Either way I end up out of pocket hahaha
