Cmon then, a round of applause to anybody who can lay to bed or prove the “ 50p on top of your stake for an extra chance to feature “ in a game works ….

    I’m calling bullshit …

I don’t really post here any more, I occasionally visit to see if the Bandit’s put a new video up for nostalgia. But I’ve worked in software for a long time, including some exposure to the betting industry (I don’t say more for identity/privacy) so I do know something about how these work.

What I can tell you is the rules governing the UK market, which are regulated by the Gambling Commission, don’t specify that there’s one particular way game features like this have to work, but there are rules around a slot’s fairness and in particular randomness overall for each spin outcome.

So anyway, one of the most common ways slots work is that we just have a reel set – so if it’s a 5×3 with 20 winlines for example, each of those 5 reels has let’s say 100 symbols on it, in different groups of repetition or not depending on the game design and when you spin, a computer randomly generates a “stop position” for each of the five reels, which then determines what you see on your screen and allows the program to calculate any win. It’s the specific design of these reels – how many symbols and in what order – which determines the RTP and the overall probability of wins of different sizes landing.

If the stop positions result in you getting for example 3 or more scatters on the screen, the bonus is triggered. The bonus might be a sequence of free spins on a different reel set which is more likely to result in wins, or it might a fixed win amount which is determined randomly and then presented to you non-randomly. These are two possibilities, there are others.

Short answer to your question: in most cases, the extra bet will literally just change the reel set to one which has a slightly larger number of bonus symbols on it and each spin randomly stops as usual.

As long the game follows statistically random outcomes in accordance with its design and tested RTP, and as long as the player is not being misled about their odds of winning, though, it’s allowed to work pretty much any way the company behind it wants. The main rule with most slots is in simple terms just that they are demonstrably random. But a lot of people get confused by this because they think it means all parts of the game must be random. Nope. The bit which really matters is that the outcome of your bet (spin) is fundamentally random such that in independent testing, the results for the stated RTP fall within the statistical margin of error only. So how that result is determined, how it’s decided whether you got a line-win or a bonus, whether the play and outcome of a bonus or pick is random or pre-determined, whether a gamble outcome is random or pre-determined, etcetera – all that can technically vary. The rules aren’t particularly prescriptive on those details.

So why would most games just use stop positions and stick some extra scatters on the reels for an enhanced bet? Because it’s the easiest thing to do to hit the desired long term RTP outcome and the simplest thing to build, that’s all.

I haven’t played slots, watched slots or had anything to do with gambling for quite some time now (which is for the best) but I randomly decided to see how the site was doing after a while and I’m saddened to hear no one’s heard anything from Steve in quite some time.

My only interactions with Steve were online, on this site, but I can honestly say they were enough to tell me he is hands-down a rock solid, good and genuine bloke. I know that, I’m utterly, 100% sure of that.

I hope whatever’s going on, he’s doing okay and my best wishes to him and his family.

    slots are 100% random*.

I was told about a year ago by a casino boss that RTP has to be reached every few weeks I think it was. How do that factor into 100% random ? Surely 100% random means it can’t ?

Sheer mathematics of probability mean hitting the RTP to within a teeny deviation (fraction of a percent) is simply inevitable over the volume of spins in that time period. They are indeed checked every few weeks, since outside very predictable deviation ranges for any number of spins, falling outside the RTP would warrant checks on the randomness.

….and on that note I’m gone from the forum again for foreseeable future, don’t need to be getting back in to talking about gambling every day or thinking about it!

Forum activity went into a steady decline a couple of years ago when those two  members (can’t remember their names) who used to cause so many arguments were banned.

As mad and annoying as they could be at times, they played a big part in making the forum worth visiting. Plus, Bandit was on top form with Sunday and midweek slots and having his amazing runs on Reelking and Swarm.

Posters trickled away and Bandit started making far fewer videos, so that’s pretty much why we’ve ended up with a pretty much dead forum now.

Same thing has happened to lots of once popular forums over time.

You’re thinking of “Just Basics” and “Mr B” and in honour of their memory may I say slots are 100% random*.

*There are a few which aren’t, but they are clearly categorised and labelled as such.

Yeah I do very occasionally open this site just to see what the Bandit’s up to these days, the answer appears to be not really making videos any more….and fair play to him if he’s grown tired of doing it, slots and online casinos and gambling started really getting on my tits, that’s why I stopped doing it. I was wasting a shit-ton of money and I didn’t even enjoy playing any more.

I’m doing fine these days, don’t gamble, extended my GamStop to 5 years just in case I ever felt tempted – hasn’t happened though, the longer I’ve gone without gambling the less I’ve missed it. I was definitely an addict, even if I only “did my balls in” once or twice over the years. But it was every spare penny that would go on the slots and live roulette, money I could have saved or better spent on literally anything else. I never won money because when I did win it would burn a hole in my pocket and the bigger the win, the hotter the fire. I’d blow it all within days, usually slotting for hours until it was numbing, then chasing some adrenaline on high stake roulette.

Honestly, it’s just not a way to live. Happy for those of you who can slot occasionally or even on the regular with a fixed budget inside your means and stick to it, and be grateful and buy yourself a treat when you get a big win. That was just never who I was.

Forum might not be too busy these days but I remain appreciative to Steve for the community he created, his hilarious, unique personality in a video format he pretty much invented (and was copied by many others after him) and for being there for the people he engaged with. People who weren’t active on this site a few years ago may not remember, but Steve gave so much back in both money and emotional support and I don’t mean to people who signed up through his affiliate links, or won his monthly prize draws, just the people who took part in what he created. Fuck anyone who ever says he isn’t real, or it’s fake money, or he’s only it in for the affiliation cash or shit like that. He helped so many people when there was nothing in it for him.

hi guys i made a withdrawal request over a week ago at all british casino. it was approved near enough straight away and i have not yet received my winnings. it was a debit card withdrawal, it is nothing to do with my bank because when i’ve withdrew from other casinos to my card it takes no longer than 3 days.for money to clear

just wondered what you guys could think it could be? has anyone had the same thing happen?

as i said i’ve never waited that long for a debit card withdrawal before

Friday was a bank holiday so I’d give it an extra 24 hours, after that contact the casino and ask them to investigate with their payment provider. A debit card credit (it’s made through the same mechanism as when you get a refund for something) should be straightforward. Never played there myself but I believe “All British” is an L&L brand, they’re definitely legit so their customer support should help you out.

Yes there are various others which handle withdrawals quickly once you’re verified but I’m loathe to recommend particular casinos to anyone, in case they’re on a break or chosen to exclude. Any reason you’re not just playing at Videoslots?

There are protections in place for UK players thanks to regulation. First step is to send them an email telling them you’ve verified your account in accordance with their procedures and they have 24 hours to process your withdrawal as previously requested or you will escalate it to a formal complaint. Next step if necessary is to follow through on that and send another email stating it is now a formal complaint. They will have some number of weeks to respond (I forget) at which point if they have not resolved the issue to your satisfaction, you request an alternative dispute resolution service is brought in. Every UK licensed casino will state somewhere on their site (usually at the bottom of every page with all the logos etc.) who their ADR is. See https://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/for-the-public/Your-rights/Alternative-dispute-resolution.aspx

Unfortunately many of us know all too well after a lovely hot streak, it’s easy to start feeling invincible only to be brought back to earth with a major bump. God knows I’ve done it enough times and following The Bandit’s Twitter account, looks like he’s just had that experience again tonight on his Reel King adventures.

But i cashed out 6.6k.  I lost 15k somewhere. Hurts just writing this

Yeah last month I hit five explorers in the bonus on Book of Ra 6 for 2500x (2k on 80p stake). Blew the lot the next day and had to time out my account. What really bugs me about it isn’t so much the money – although I really wish I’d kept it and put a timeout on my account straight after the win – but the fact that it’s a once in a lifetime win and I blew it. I’m never going to hit five explorers in a Book of Ra bonus again. It was my biggest ever slot win by multiplier of stake.

Are you talking about PlayOjo? In my opinion, it is the shittest casino I’ve ever played at, I actually closed my account there it was so bad. Ridiculous wait for withdrawals, terrible design/UI, site would go down and crash frequently in the middle of a game.

I get what you are saying but I swear to god I’ve managed to turn one £30 deposit into a few hundred quid many times. My usual process is I play cashing rainbows firsts. It’s a not-too-popular slot where the bonus locks the wilds in place, but the max win is 250x. Similar to clockwork nice.

Anyways, I might just be lucky but it seems to bonus a lot and the jackpot is easy-ish to hit. I’ve even has a jackpot line win in the main game a load of times. But I’ll play that slot with the first to second £30 deposits, and MOST OF THE TIME come away up. Once I get to £60-75 balance I’ll head over to either sword of khan or legacy of the dead. If I can get the balance to £100 I’ll go on a megaways slot a(currently Rick and morty or genie) and try and grind for a bonus.

I totally appreciate what you’re saying about whacking £150 in running one game entirely, but there’s no enjoyment from that for me and I would be super tilted if I blew £150 without any decent wins, bonuses or gameplay. At least if worst case scenario happened and I lost £150 over five deposits but LOADS of various games and gameplay I would have some play enjoyment from it. Playing one slot like that unless it was lil devil would be boring as fuck for me.

No £150 you should be able to play about half a dozen games at 40p-60p stakes with a decent prospect of hitting at least a few features overall. Of course it’s possible to build up a bankroll of just £30 – I’ve done it many times on Bonanza at 60p. But over time you will inevitably find the number of times you’ve deposited £30 and bust out with no feature come to much exceed the number of times you’ve had a good win off it. If you’re willing to immediately reload, you have better prospects but then why not just do a proper deposit at once in the first place?

What strategy you should go for, in the end, depends what you’re aiming for – profit or entertainment. I tend to want the max number of games, features and playing time for my money, on a slot session I don’t really care if I’m bust at the end as long as I had a good time getting there. But also I’ve had many occasions I’ve chucked in £200, played for ten hours, had a dozen plus bonuses on loads of different games and still cashed out a healthy profit at the end.

i challenge bandit to play 25 spins on low stake and see how he goes on .

Your bad strategy is screwing you there. Sure you’ll eventually have a day where you hit a bonus on something the first spin, or the first ten spins, but you can’t play half a dozen different games even at a low stake on that kind of deposit and expect to hit anything, because you just don’t have the budget to give any game a fair hearing. You’re better off doing one £150 deposit than five £30 deposits and actually giving one game a good run of 100 spins to land something.

I found the exclusion very useful but probably will think twice about doing it again due to these issues

Ah yeah, I fancied a bash on Pokerstars the other night and found I couldn’t deposit thanks to previous Gamstop. Bit annoying because I’ve never had an issue with poker, hardly ever play it but on low stakes £20 can bring a whole day’s entertainment.

Yeah I’ve not bothered with any which left my account dormant, if they don’t want me playing with them that’s fine by me. I try to stick to one casino now anyway, I think it’s healthier to stick to one site with sensible limits. Still got a couple of other old ones which automatically reopened when I came off Gamstop but I haven’t used them thusfar.

1000 spins on  captain venture at a quid not 1 bonus ……  unreal

Why put 1000 spins in to a high volatility game with low base payouts chasing a bonus which very rarely pays as much as 1000x? It’s never worth giving Captain more than 100-150 spins. I never even give it that many these days, as I have a strong track record of either hitting the bonus within the first 25 spins or not at all.
