Not taking the player’s bet is very different to the games operating at an increased RTP in the regular sense (I mean, yes, not taking the cost of the spin will automatically yield an infinite RTP by definition, but it’s not a higher RTP in the sense we would ordinarily be referring to). Would love to see some more info about this occurrence if anyone has any. But if players noticed spins weren’t costing them anything in real play and went on to withdraw winnings from it, yeah I’m no lawyer but I’d imagine it’s clear fraud given it’s an obvious, unmissable malfunction in the game – which also voids winnings in accordance with contract terms. That said, I’d be surprised if the police would in practice get involved; permanently banning the players concerned from the site if they refuse to return the winnings is more likely to be the most VS can actually do. Threatening to inform police is probably a bluff on their part.

I acknowledge our understanding of addictions, both psychological and physiological, is incomplete. Nonetheless the available science we have across the board strongly indicates that any notion of “willpower” is little to do with it. Gambling activity has been shown to cause many of the same changes in brain chemistry as narcotic addiction and there is a good basis to believe it has at least a partially physiological cause – in contrast to say, an addiction to chocolate, or even more harmful psychological addictions like compulsive hair pulling (trichotillomania). Fundamentally, diverting to my own opinion here, I think all addictions have biochemical cause insofar as consciousness is a product of brain chemistry but even if we partition mind and matter for the sake of constructing models and understanding the mechanics of addiction, there is little doubt compulsive gambling goes beyond simple choice.

Even without the benefit of scientific research, how many of us with direct first-hand experience of this problem can testify that gambling and in particular “tilting” can seem very much like a trance-like state, where we are disconnected from reality and only acknowledge and understand the value of what we’ve lost after it’s all gone? I know I used to get like that on the FOBTs years ago, I’d describe it very much like I was just watching myself do it – quite often I’d be stuffing more notes in the machine fully aware of the fact I needed that money and actually pleading with myself inside to stop, thinking “why am I doing this?”

Why is it a great many people who know better fall in to the trap of gambling addiction? Contrary to popular belief, it is not the preserve of the lower class or less intelligent, it’s an addiction more likely to be prevalent in high earning, white collar, well educated workers.

I think the fact that if and when you do stop doing it, nothing drastic physically happens to you in say the manner of alcohol or opiate withdrawal can lead to a superficial impression that it’s “just a bad decision” and not a “real addiction”, but I can also say from my own experience it’s neither true that it’s simply a choice I made nor that stopping didn’t carry real and meaningful experience of withdrawal symptoms, they just didn’t take the form of nausea and shaking or other things which are more obvious to everyone else.

£2 is what I’d consider a big stake for slots. When I was playing, I would start with around 500x my stake and as my typical deposit was £200-250 that meant 40p-50p spins. This would usually give me hours of game play, dozens of features on many games and the wins you can get even off 40p can be huge, many times I won more than my entire deposit of a single bonus. I had sessions where I started with £200, never staked higher than 50p and ended with a couple of grand. Even when I didn’t hit those awesome winning streaks, I’d often find myself close to the starting balance after a few hours.

But you start with £250 and stake £2, it only takes a bad run two games in a row and you’ve busted out. Yes there were occasions where had I staked £2, my £200 deposit would have become five or even ten grand and i admit it was always a bit galling when I hit a 1000x bonus or something less than ten spins in to my session, knowing how much higher that win could’ve been, but gambling should always be relative to what you can afford. Bottom line for me is if £200 is the only deposit I could afford to lose in a month, I’d rather it lasted six hours than 25 minutes.

“Demo Mode” Dazza looked like he got more bonuses on Bonanza in a typical session than most players see in a lifetime. That said, Bonanza was one of my favourite games and a few times in real play I got streaks of features, I think I once got seven in a single hour of play, five another time. Three times I’ve had it land on the first press, at least another six times I’ve had it land within the first 5-10 spins and twice I had two bonuses land within 5 spins of each other.

I’m not a member of any gambling forum except this one, I’ve very occasionally browsed a few of the others….Stop and Step, Fruity Slots, TGC. I’ve seen The Bandit and his site slagged off on all of them and yet none of them seem to have the sense of community this place does.

I know for a fact that Steve is real, honest, straightforward and a good man. As far as I’m concerned, he has done more for his community than any other streamer has for theirs by a damned long margin. No one else comes close, no one else comes second by a mile for the amount of support given back to their viewers. I watched him on YouTube since his channel first started, he was the first to do the hour of pure bonus features, he was the first to run generous and regular giveaways. He is the original and best and almost all the other popular streamers today are nothing but a poor imitation, wouldn’t even be doing what they’re doing if it weren’t for Steve.

That’s why I’m here and that’s why I’m staying here.

Very much feel for you, OP, that’s a horrible experience. On a bit of more general advice, which you’ve unfortunately learned the hard way, I would always say to people with gambling online don’t ever spend the money until it’s in your bank.

The GC should require UK licensed casinos to make the terms attached to a bonus clear and in plain English before a player takes it. Is there wagering? Is there a max bet size? Are there excluded games? Is there a cap on winnings? Players shouldn’t have to find or dig through obscure terms and conditions to find this information, it should be right there on the screen at a normal font size when the bonus is offered to you.

I also used to dream about big wins and think they were real for a few precious moments when I woke up. Often happened after a real life big loss.

Haven’t seen the video yet, but I’m guessing it was chasing a Reel King top? If so, I think we all, probably including Steve, knew this was an inevitable outcome eventually. If anything I’m amazed it’s taken this long and again although I’m yet to see the video, I’m sure Steve has limited his loss to an amount he was satisfied he could afford based on previous wins.

Surely not? I thought the casinos and regulators are all corrupt and in each other’s pockets to ensure their skullduggery can continue unabated? ?

I enjoyed the regular and high stakes videos and although I’m not really a fan of the mega stake Reel King ones, you have to admire Steve’s balls on those. I mean, I don’t know how much money he has in the bank but I’m pretty confident it’s not a million and if I had £1,000,000 in the bank I still wouldn’t think it was a high enough balance to risk dropping £50k chasing a top on the gamble ladder.

Book of Ra bonus always used to get me well excited, though my only true OMG moment was the glorious day I got the second highest symbol, which normally is a total no-show, then on the fifth bonus spin it dropped in 1 & 2 and I was like oh alright at least it’s a win, then third reel and I was like ok bonus is at least not a write off, then fourth and I was like wow that’s got to be decent and finally fifth for “OMG!” – all this happened in a couple of seconds but I can remember every moment.
