Yeah this does smell a bit. Looks like Paul doesn’t have enough evidence to be certain one way or the other, so has to sit on the fence. But for sure he found enough inconsistencies to give him doubts. Obviously in his position he can’t come straight out with it, not without solid proof.

I agree with JB that I don’t think he should do further videos. The streamer community is very small and I would hate to see him damaged by it.

@Monito. Yes indeed that’s the other side of the argument. However…

If you consider that during tilt a player is out of control, what if that same chemical imbalance can strike outside of tilt, leaving them just as unable to make a rational choice.

Again consider the chronically depressed person who relapses regularly, or the alcoholic, or smoker. I smoked for years and found that after a week of abstinence, the cravings would diminish to barely more than an annoyance. But then suddenly after 2 weeks, then a month, then three months, they would come back with a vengeance. They were as bad in those moments than just minutes after the last fag.

Then consider that something about gambling may be even more compelling than smoking. Suddenly the will power argument is not clear cut.

I could easily argue both ways – so here goes.

The video suggests addiction is provoked by a change in brain chemistry. We know this also is a cause of depression. Would we say to a depressed individual “Pull yourself together, you’re just weak!”

Well of course not because we understand that the depressed person isn’t acting that way out of choice. Their brains are temporarily unbalanced. The same goes for a whole range of mental illnesses. So, if it’s true for depression, then it’s not such a stretch to say that addiction may be the same.

It may appear to be a lack of will power because the solution i.e. to hold fast and not gamble seems so obvious and tangible. Just don’t smoke, don’t drink… the same. However, if the person is not acting out of free will, and is in fact “ill”, then he has no choice and so will power isn’t a factor.

Now consider the player on “tilt”. I’ve heard and can imagine that this state is one of the hardest to walk away from. Is the tilted player in control of their behaviour? I would say not. I would say they are consumed by an uncontrollable urge and in that moment has no choice but to spunk their entire month’s pay on whatever slot has wound them up. This is the extreme end of gambling and clearly demonstrates that “will power” has very little to do with it.

@Seedy never throughout history has anyone announced they’re gonna do the unthinkable. That’s the first clue that they’re not gonna do it. This is basic human psychology on high school level.

Saying they’re contemplating something like that is clear cut signs of narcissistic abuse to try to make others feel bad about what they did themselves. It’s psycopathic traits, like guys saying they’re gonna off themselves if their girlfriend leaves them

Someone who’s actually gonna go through with something like that spends their time getting their shit sorted before they do it. They paint the white picket fence, they pay the bills, they tidy the house, they do everything so they don’t leave a mess for the ones they leave behind.

People who leave us behind don’t leave a chaos. They leave in silence, more often than not without any explanation.

I have spent my life in and around psychiatry. I was a psychiatric nurse for years, a Samaritan and am currently a mental health first aider. So I can say with some authority that what you say is total bollocks.

Sometimes people say nothing, tidy their affairs and jog off without anyone realising anything was wrong. Most often however, there are plenty of signs and warnings. They do tell others of their intentions. Although occasionally such warnings can be used to manipulate others, more often they are desperate individuals who need help. Suicide rates are high amongst addicted gamblers, so if any forum member says such a thing chances are they aren’t just pulling an angle.

A statement of intent should always be taken seriously.

Sounds like you have it easy lad. At least you can afford toast.

I’ve been surviving on knob-cheese and toilet water strained through a pair of holey socks. Toast! bloody luxury mate.

@Just Basics. Mate I like you, I really do, but you need to step back and think.

It’s like giving an arsonist a box of matches, stepping back and saying “Fuck me look at that fire go! But it’s not my fault, I’m not responsible for his behaviour!”

People pointing out that you have behaved badly doesn’t make them wrong. You set up a situation, largely for your own entertainment I suspect, and then bleat when you get flamed for it. The least you can do is hold up your hands and own it.

@Guffleshuffle87 I agree mate and that’s what makes me genuinely sad. This poor bloke probably has suffered an abusive past. It’s the most likely reason why he acts in such an aggressive manner. Either that or he has some innate personality issue. Whatever is wrong, it must be a lonely life and he deserves our sympathy.

I’m saddened when people feel the need to be so egregiously offensive to total strangers. Generally I think this demonstrates a lack of emotional depth and empathy; an attempt to bolster their fragile self esteem. The trouble is matey, it doesn’t matter how much you do it, it’s impossible fill the terrible chasm of emptiness you carry inside. I feel genuinely sorry for you.

It’s a big loss but  in reality he can make it back in 2-3 weeks like he has done numerous times before.

One thing I have noticed since bandit’s wealth has rocketed is that he has become rude and impatient

with the trolls and non believers.  One year ago his demeanour was much friendlier and less arsey.

Maybe he doesnt care what people think about him anymore as his affiliate money is tiny compared to his

    reel king gambles.

If he has become more impatient it’s because he’s sick of trolls and has said so on a fair few occasions. It has cock-all to do with affiliate earnings. If he has become less tolerant since his recent success it’s because the amount of shit he gets is far more now, mainly due to that very success. So it’s hardly surprising if there’s a correlation. He also says he doesn’t care about what they say, but in my opinion that’s not true. He cares alright and it’s hard not to, otherwise he wouldn’t spend so much time defending himself. There’s no way of winning that battle.

Gutted about the loss but I suppose it was bound to happen. As Steve is 600K up though it could just as easily be a small bump. Well okay a bloody large bump but even so. I wouldn’t like to be his partner though. Don’t think I could sleep with worry 🙁

He does spend more time justifying himself than any other streamer and makes more effort than any of the others trying to prove his honesty. That’s despite being one of the only two streamers that all would agree is beyond doubt. Your honesty is so bloody obvious Steve, you don’t need to do this!

@awesomex. This next step will never happen. Think of it this way.

    1) Some people have urges to go around killing. They don’t do it, because they know it’s wrong and also they’ll get locked up.

    2) Some people have these urges and act on them.

    3) Gun ownership is legalised.

Now the governments don’t suddenly legalise mass murder. This last part would be akin to employing a known pederast as a primary school teacher. People have CRB checks to assist in filtering out risks. This trumps an individual’s right to equal treatment.

I understand your concerns, but if any government attempted to pass laws protecting the rights of such people, you would have 95% of the population marching in the streets.

@awesomex. I don’t believe that a lot of young adults think like this. I do believe that these people are given more of a platform these days than before which may give the impression that there are more of them.

Should they be given a platform? My instinct says no bloody way, but there are arguments that nothing should be banned from discussion and I do have sympathy with that view. Maybe this is an exception though, as the guy was actively trying to promote it as a healthy life choice for both him and his victims. Child abuse always has a catastrophic psychological effect on the victims, no matter how young they are. It damages them for life. I know this.

As I’ve said before, there is a difference between a pederast, like this bloke, and a paedophile. The paedophile has feelings which he can do nothing about, and would never act on them. They deserve help and support. The pederast does act on them and needs to be bound and handed over to the parents for long and painful retribution.
