If you got stairs in your house mate use them like a lot going up and down stairs solid for 10 mins then a break of about 5 mins do it for a hour a day that gets your cardio going once your body gets used to it increase it a bit before a break.

Yeah I have stairs, not many but I spos it’s better than doing nothing.

As I cannot afford anything expensive I was thinking I could look at maybe getting some small hand weights and I’m sure you can buy weight straps that go on your legs but I’m not sure how effective they are.

A lot of people on here have actually given alot of helpful tips and advice it’s now just putting them to use.

Well if you don’t have to money to go the gym then I would just recommend doing excercise in your own house if your too anxious about going outside. You can start by doing push ups, sit ups, crunches and such even just walking up and down your stairs or even creating some space in your living room and running from one side to the other – the only thing that matters is that your heart rate is increasing and your burning off energy, you lose weight by burning off more calories than you take in. First thing to tackle is getting your diet sorted and sticking to it as diet is the main factor when losing weight and then start throwing in some excercises.

Just don’t fall into the mind set that because you can’t afford the gym or afford excercise equipment that you can’t lose weight because you can lose it just by eating healthy and excercising in your house ? and hopefully your circumstances will change in the future and you can then join a gym if you feel confident enough and can afford it but as I said you don’t need the gym or equipment to lose it, it does help but ultimately you can do it without.

Remember Rome wasn’t built in a day so start out small and gradually challenge yourself to do more and same with the diet slowly decrease your portion sizes if that helps.

Starting from tomorrow I am seriously going to think about my diet I really need to get in the routine of eating and not eating certain foods.

Someone on this post told me about some workouts on YouTube which I have tried once but due to my size it’s pretty difficult bending over etc ? my therapist was telling me to try and take the dog out for a walk 5 mins a day to help with the anxiety so once I get the courage to do that may help with the Exercise.

I don’t even get free spins lol I can only afford maybe 10 a month to gamble so I used that on Grosvenor ?

    Hey Rikki,

Don’t be silly about people calling you lazy! We all have our own circumstances and life experiences mould us into the people we are for better or for worse, it sounds like the death of your sister had a massive impact on you and I’m sorry to hear that but the fact you have made a step in the right direction to shed some weight speaks volumes, good on you matey.

I can definitely relate to your story as I also suffer from anxiety and depression and a few years back I weighed around 17 stone which was massive for me considering I’m only 5″6 in height. I must have been around 24ish when I decided to tackle my weight issue. I started off small with going for walks – the job I used to work in Crewe required me to go to the bank at the end of every shift so I was walking mon-fri for about an hour doing those bank runs. It was near the end of the working day so I had to walk rather fast to get there and the first few times my heart felt like it was going to explode but I kept doing it and every time I challenged myself to walk even faster to the point I was striding down the street and upon getting to the bank I would check the time I made it in, every time I got there a bit faster it motivated me just a little bit more. It wasn’t long before I felt confident enough to start jogging there, then running then doing sprints…I must have looked like a lunatic but I just pushed on anyway.

After a month or so the pounds started to drop off and I got into the routine of exercising on a daily basis and with that I started to eat a healthy diet as I didn’t want all the work I was putting in to be for nothing. My diet was pretty simple: Smoothies in the morning or something healthy like porridge. bran flakes or a bowl of fruit. For lunch as I was busy working I would have John West tuna pots – little pots with pasta, sauce, tuna and vegetables in although you could make these yourself for a lot less or I would have tuna pasta using wholewheat pasta and 0% fat mayonnaise (small portions) and in the evening I would have baked sweet potato wedges, sweetcorn and lemon sole fish but really just find something healthy that you enjoy eating for me it was that and make sure to eat sensible sized portions. If I was ever peckish in between meals I would snack on yogurt, fruit or fill myself up on water. The hunger pangs at first are horrible but as your stomach shrinks you get used to it.

As I said I suffer from anxiety but I was with my girlfriend (ex) at the time and she wanted to sign up to the Gym so I decided to sign up too because she was going but had I been on my own I doubt I would have worked up the nerve. I actually signed up to Bannatyne health club (owned by Duncan Bannatyne from Dragons Den) as they had a promotion on and the price was reasonable at the time. It included a sauna, steam room, swimming pool, gym and access to free fitness classes so there was a lot to do in the place so I started going for 2 hours a day after work just jumping on the treadmill and alternating between walking, jogging, running and sprinting and then adding an incline in as I got fitter and ending the session by doing some weights and jumping on the rowing machine/cross trainer. I started to take healthy eating even more seriously at this point as the treadmills displayed how many calories you burnt whilst on it and it takes way over 45 minutes just to burn of a bloody mars bar haha ?

After around 2-3 months of doing this rigorously the stones completely fell off me I lost around 7 stone in just under 3 months and now I find it hard to gain weight. I definitely felt more confident and it seemed like people were more willing to interact with me whether that was because of the confidence boost or me losing weight I’ll never know, maybe it was a combination of the two – people are very fickle and vain I found after I lost the weight.  I think when you go through the struggle of losing weight you sub consciously change the way you think about food also, now when I go into a shop I don’t even bother looking at the junk food anymore.

I hope me sharing this story helped in some way even if it was just for some ideas or motivation, best of luck to you mate just remember it’s all about being determined and getting into that routine, once your in it then all you have to do is maintain. If I can do it then I’m sure you can as I’m the laziest fucker that’s ever existed haha ?

WOW 7 stone in 3 months, That’s amazing!! I really am starting to try and cut down on the food and make smaller portions and try and cut out pretty much all junk food, I would love to go to the gym but I know I would never be able to go alone =/ even if I did the cost in bus fair and membership would kill my bank ? I’m going to have to try and save up for a heavy duty fitness machine as I think that would help me a lot it would also get me motivated, I was going going to set up a go fund me for a cheap heavy duty machine that could hold my weight but I feel I would get ridiculed and I would also feel ashamed so I think I’m gonna try and save the penny’s!

My sister’s passing is what caused all this anxiety and depression, it happened 2 days before my 22nd birthday and 2 weeks before her 19th even tho it’s been around 8 years it still affects me and since then about 2 years ago I walked in my father’s beedroom and found him in bed dead all this shit just makes it worse, I’m actually doing a cognitive therapy course to help with the anxiety so hopefully that can help me out =)

Ok guys I thought I’d share with you some info on prostate cancer.

My dad was diagnosed with this about 3 years ago and luckily he has beaten it for now, but what he had to go through whilst receiving the radiotherapy would make every man cringe, I’m sure having to stick a straw down your penis up to 17 times a day to drain a dribble of pee from your bladder to relieve yourself is horrendous, the radiation inflames the prostate which swells up and you  just can’t pee.

Every male has a 1 in 10 chance of being diagnosed with this disease in their lifetime but due to my dad having it mine is now 1 in 6.

However there is a simple blood test that you can ask for at your doctors called a PSA Test, you don’t need to get a doctors finger put up your behind like most men think and are embarrassed about lol

Im getting mine done next week so please guys when your next at your doctors just ask for this blood test to be done.

Prostate cancer is referred to as the silent killer as the only symptoms are you need to pee more often especially  through the night.

Please guys just ask for the blood test it’s so simple.

I’m forever pissing through the night but I’ve been doing that for a few years.

OK Rikki, so the bottom line is that there are millions of exercise bikes in the world and the majority of them are being used to dry clothes on.

if i’m not wrong you don’t go out due to anxiety and a by product of that is that you spend a lot of time on the PC or watching TV with a fridge full of food at close hand which is readily available.

Any exercise bike you can get for £40 is going to be a total piece of crap which will not be designed for you weight, will be horrible to use and will be discarded after the first five minutes.

first thing to do is get food intake under control.  I just buy enough for what I need and no more.   I don’t buy junk food like desserts, chocolate or crisps etc because I love food too much and will eat it all in the first day.

Once the weight starts to drop off it will be like a mental achievement and it will get easier, and don’t worry about getting “stabbed” by going for early morning walks.  Stay out of the dark areas and remember there are 65 million people in the Uk and probably 200 stabbing a year, mostly in London by Young thugs fighting each other.

it is so worth doing this, it will change your life- self esteem improves, your whole outlook will change and eventually you may even see body improvement as a hobby, you will certainly live longer and better

I’m the same I’ll order shopping and maybe get a pack of crisps and some other junk and just eat it for no reason…ive actually started to cut out fizzy drinks and started drinking smoothies so that’s a start ?

I shouldn’t really be worried about getting stabbed lmao I’m a pretty big guy with a big beard and Staffy dog so ?

When I first posted this I was scared to even check the replys thinking there would be people calling me a lazy so and so ? but I’m genuinely greatful for everyone commenting and being supportive.

Hey Rikki, how are you getting on with the anxiety ? I’ve had panic attacks for about 10 years now. So I know about triggers and breathing exercises, stress and of course what meds I take. I actually endured them for a whole year without meds because they offered me diazipam and there is no way on gods green earth I was willing to become addicted to them, as opposed to at worse, dependent on something else. It’s a long drawn out story but I have ok days and bad days, the occasional good or better day.

Also, aside from staff here knowing your email address, don’t worry too much about talking about this issue on the forum, they are a good bunch and they care too. It’s a down to earth place. Do you know about the official panic attack website ? Can’t think of it off the top of my head but I am sure a quick search will find it. Dunno why I am typing that and not just googling it for you, in case you don’t know of it.

I to have put on a bit of weight as a result of many (feels like) billions of days when I am no use to anyone. I don’t walk far and due to a head injury I don’t run. Cycling is a great way also swimming is the best for all over fitness.

    Onwards and upwards ?

This….. I was just about to write something like this….

Hi Rikki…. I understand my friend, I’ve been there and was off me work for 4 difficult years… I found that finding enjoyable pass times helped me greatly, like reading and stuff to get me out of my bad days… And I knew as soon as I woke up if it was a bad day….

Motivation is key.. Very difficult I know but its essential to recovery.

Keep posting My friend and we’ll keep responding. ??❤

That’s what I need is motivation!!! I need someone to kick me up the ads and say get out! But it’s extremely difficult trying to tell family/friends about how I feel.

I’ve had anxiety for maybe 7-8 years….so a very long time, all started after watching my sister pass away in hospital which all set it off =/ to help with the anxiety in actually doing an online course with silvercloud at the moment it isn’t really helping much but I’ve only started recently so. I would love to cycle I did that a lot when I was younger but I always worry about the bike might decide to break while I’m riding ?

There’s some good advice out there for weight loss in J. Rogan podcasts with those MMA guys, all big dudes who need the best ways of weight loss. The main takeaway from them that I got was don’t over eat for what your doing in your day otherwise exercises are pointless.

When I say I don’t get out I mean I don’t get out like at all lol it may sound silly to some people but when you get as anxious as I do it’s really hard. It took me literal years to even get the courage and ask the Dr for help.
