Completely ignore the greyed out symbols you were looking at. They have nothing to do with unlocking the bigger potato on your current level.
You have it almost right Steve. The symbols that are highlighted INSIDE box on the left are what you need for the potato to expand. And once you hit them they glow orange. Whatever ones seem to flowing orange you need to hit.
the multiplier – the little diamond things with numbers on them. If your win line goes through this number it activates the multiplier.
