Around this time last year i’d pretty much had enough, really wanted to make the change so put some barriers in place.

The next thing I did was difficult as I do like a sports betting. I banned myself from all my local bookmakers, it’s easy to do with MOSES (multi operator self exclusion scheme)

Self Exclusion

You phone them, tell them where you live, tell them what bookmakers you can access and they handle the exclusion for you. You fill out a form and you send a photo. The embarrassment factor has stopped me walking into a bookmaker on the list since.

If I do fancy a football bet i’ll get my Dad to pop in for me, that way I can stay in control.

Don’t get me wrong it’s not been a walk in the park and I’ve had the odd slip. MOSES/Gamstop have been great tools for me.

Amazon charged me for a year with a prime membership one of the kids had somehow set up, they refused to stop the charges or refund me as I didn’t know the email it was set up in. I went higher than management and no luck. Phoned my bank and had all the money refunded within an hour. Makes no difference what you are paying for. You pay your bank good money, make sure you use them when needed. Doesn’t matter one jot where the transaction was for.

Phone your bank, tell them you have been defrauded of £100. You paid for a service and the payment didn’t reach them so where did it go? The bank will then have to deal with them.

I pay BT £97 a month, their 4k package with BT Sports, mobile with 12 gig of data, home phone and line rental, their unlimited Fibre 2 plus second box.

Pay an IPTV provider £40 a year for sports and movies, have done for 4 years without issues. App on smart TV too so no pissing about.

As for Gambling addiction I think the streamers do touch upon on it enough and try to help or at least point people in the right direction. I think when you are gambling it is easy to lose site of the value of money. I completely finished gambling online and in my local bookmakers early last year. Never been as well off and happier too. If you can limit yourself and play well within your means I think that is the way to go. Sadly I never could so had to stop.
