Hey, sorry no one replied to you sooner. Great to hear you’ve taken the first steps and joined up to gamstop. I would go around all your local bookies (with no money to hand) and ask them to self exclude you. If you see one in the street and you feel your self gravitating towards it, take 100 steps in the opposite way or past it if you need to go that way, and then name in your head 5 things you can see. Don’t even look at the shop. Though bookies weren’t my weakness, I found it hard to walk past an arcade in service stations, and this helped me at times. When you’ve got no cash available, or if you’vesomeone to accompany you, go back to the shop and ask them to self exclude you. Set yourself a daily limit that you can withdraw from a cash machine to something low, and only carry enough cash on you for that day. Leave your bank card with someone you can trust, if you don’t feel like you can be trusted with it. I’m here if you need anymore advice 🙂

I would weigh up your options first. You’ve been at the company you’re at now for over 25 years. Is it better than average pay for a taxi firm? Is it cheaper to hire the radio/other bits than uber? In a crisis, who is likely to go bust first, and put you into redundancy? I haven’t had a taxi for years, but I always stuck with my local one, rather than the big boys when I did. Help your local business and all that 🙂 it’s your choice at the end of the day, but I would look at what other drivers from uber have put on a job review website before making any decisions. 🙂 good luck, whatever you decide to do.

Im acutely aware of a gamblers mentality,so stand by my OP.

Casual gambling is ok for some,but the “I wish I cashed out when I had x”  and the attempt to get back to where you were,or better is what keeps the gambling business going.

Sorry to hear this 🙁 have you considered putting deposit/loss limits on your account? If you feel like you’re not in control anymore, I would consider gamstop. Just give yourself a bit of time to get your head around what’s happened. You don’t want to get the urge to deposit again on friday, to lose your money again for the following week. You’ll end up getting in debt from having to borrow. I hope you feel a little bit more level headed now its had a few hours to sink in.
